This morning, Chief Sullivan spoke with over 350 kids at the Coach Hill Basketball Camp, where he encouraged them to keep making good choices and expressed how proud he was that they are participating in such a great program. He also took time to answer a few questions.

Thank you to Coach Hill and all the counselors who gave their time to mentor, encourage, and pour into the young men and women at camp.

This is a great program for our community.

TRAFFIC ALERT: From KDOT

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will close northbound and southbound I-135 at the 21st Street on- and off-ramps starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, March 28.

Other closures during this time include the westbound K-96 to northbound I-135 ramp as well as the northbound I-135 on-ramp at 29th Street.

All the closures are necessary to open the new ramp connecting westbound K-96 to northbound I-135. The existing K-96/I-135 ramp will be permanently closed after this weekend.

The new northbound I-135 ramp and the 29th Street ramp are scheduled to open by 6 a.m. Monday, March 30.

During the closure, westbound K-96 traffic will be directed to southbound I-135, then west on U.S. 54 and transition north on I-235 to return to the I-235/I-135 interchange.

The northbound I-135 on-ramp from 21st Street is already closed to help motorists adjust to new traffic patterns.o

🚓 Slow Down Speeding Isn’t Worth It 🚓

Speeding is more than just breaking the law. The consequences are far-ranging:
• Greater potential for loss of vehicle control;
• Reduced effectiveness of occupant protection equipment;
• Increased stopping distance after the driver perceives a danger;
• Increased degree of crash severity leading to more severe injuries;
• Economic implications of a speed-related crash; and
• Increased fuel consumption/cost.

🚶‍♀️ October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! 🚦

Whether you’re walking, driving, or biking, everyone plays a role in keeping our streets safe.

✅ Drivers: Always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Stay alert, especially in busy areas and school zones.
✅ Pedestrians: Use crosswalks whenever available, try and make eye contact with drivers so you both know that each other is aware.
✅ Everyone: Slow down and look out for one another.

This works best when we work together.
