A couple of weeks ago, Community Policing Officer Phil Berger learned of a 95 year old victim of a crime who was also struggling with obtaining other necessities including a proper bed, mattress, and food. Officer Berger reached out to the Wichita Police and Fire Departments Random Acts of Kindness program as well as Wal-Mart, Crazy J’s Furniture and Sleep Shop, and Meals on Wheels to see what could be done. With everyone’s help, the victim is back on her feet, has a brand new bed, sheets, pillows, blankets, and will be receiving daily meal delivered as well.

Thank you Officer Berger for your dedication to our community and for the support from the WPFF, Wal-Mart, Crazy J’s, and Meals on Wheels!

Today Patrol East Community Police Officer Bieler participated with other WPD officers and local kids at the Wichita Crime Commission’s annual Kickpoolaza kickball event at League 42! Everyone had a great time and even beat some of the heat!

Yesterday the 2026 WPD Spring Recruit Class graduated from the training academy and Patrol East welcomed eight new Probationary Police Officers (PPO) to the bureau! From left to right are PPO Kiser, PPO Robinson, PPO Peguero, PPO Bayles, PPO Boac, PPO Swink, PPO Bennett, and PPO Baker. Captain Beard is very proud of their accomplishments and looks forward to all of them serving the citizens of Wichita, especially in PE!

Yes, it was also Captain Beard’s 50th birthday as well! Thank you to all the officers, supervisors, and staff that helped celebrate the day!

Today, Patrol East Community Policing officers had the opportunity to hang out with Bear Cubs from Boy Scout Pack 520. The kids got to check out the station, pieces of equipment, and even a patrol car! Everyone had a great time! Thanks for letting spending the afternoon with us!

Last week, Patrol East, had a going away and thank you party for our crime analyst, Jonathan “Jack” Spickelmeier. Jack has been our crime analyst for the past two years and has provided critical information for our bureau and community. Jack has been extremely helpful especially with our bureau’s Risk Terrain Modeling and violent crime reduction strategy! Jack you will be truly missed! Good luck on your new endeavors!!

K9 Officer Wescott and his partner, Mantra, stopped in at Patrol East to cool off from all this heat and wind today! Mantra enjoyed a cold drink and ice cubes! We hope everyone is staying cool today, and don’t forget about your pets!

This morning, Chief Sullivan spoke with over 350 kids at the Coach Hill Basketball Camp, where he encouraged them to keep making good choices and expressed how proud he was that they are participating in such a great program. He also took time to answer a few questions.

Thank you to Coach Hill and all the counselors who gave their time to mentor, encourage, and pour into the young men and women at camp.

This is a great program for our community.

Captain Beard had the opportunity to hang out at the Starkey Persons Served Spring Party on Friday! Everyone had a great time checking out the police cruiser and equipment, especially the P.A. system!! 🤣 Thank you Starkey for allowing Patrol East to be part of the fun day outside!

Several members of Patrol East participated with the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service today including Honor Guard, EOD, SWAT, Mounted, and the CP team. Each member had a specific function to help make the service a success. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication!!
