Captain Beard had the opportunity to hang out at the Starkey Persons Served Spring Party on Friday! Everyone had a great time checking out the police cruiser and equipment, especially the P.A. system!! 🤣 Thank you Starkey for allowing Patrol East to be part of the fun day outside!

Several members of Patrol East participated with the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service today including Honor Guard, EOD, SWAT, Mounted, and the CP team. Each member had a specific function to help make the service a success. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication!!

Today students from Goddard High School’s law class took a tour of Patrol East and heard presentations from K9 Officer Mellard and his partner Bear, Mounted Commander Lt. Vogt with Hero, and Officer Wine with Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD). The students asked a lot of great questions and everyone had a great time! This effort is about more than just a delivery, it’s about connection, care, and showing up for those who may need a little extra support.

From warm meals to meaningful conversations, these visits help remind our neighbors that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

🚨 Traffic Alert – Avoid the Area 🚨

Wichita Police are currently investigating a fatal crash near Lincoln and Oliver.

The intersection is closed and will remain so for an undetermined amount of time.

Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes in advance if this is part of your normal commute.

Traveling south on Oliver? Use alternate north-south routes such as Hillside or Edgemoor.

Traveling east or west? Utilize Harry Street to get around the closure.

The Wichita Police Department is attempting to locate 28-year-old Jeremiah Cardenas of Wichita, in connection with the shooting from this morning in the 1500 block of South Seneca. He’s 6’2”, 200lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Jeremiah is potentially armed and dangerous.

If you know any information on the location of Jeremiah, please call 911.

TRAFFIC ALERT: From KDOT

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will close northbound and southbound I-135 at the 21st Street on- and off-ramps starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, March 28.

Other closures during this time include the westbound K-96 to northbound I-135 ramp as well as the northbound I-135 on-ramp at 29th Street.

All the closures are necessary to open the new ramp connecting westbound K-96 to northbound I-135. The existing K-96/I-135 ramp will be permanently closed after this weekend.

The new northbound I-135 ramp and the 29th Street ramp are scheduled to open by 6 a.m. Monday, March 30.

During the closure, westbound K-96 traffic will be directed to southbound I-135, then west on U.S. 54 and transition north on I-235 to return to the I-235/I-135 interchange.

The northbound I-135 on-ramp from 21st Street is already closed to help motorists adjust to new traffic patterns.o

Community Policing Officer Miller met with several children at the Discovery Place Preschool last week. He showed them his police car, uniform, and handed out lots of stickers! Thank you Discovery Place for letting Officer Miller stop by and say hello to everyone, he had a great time!!!

Captain Beard, CP Officer Miller, and CP Officer Berger had the privilege to meet with the Sisters of St. Joseph at the convent today. We discussed police operations, goals, and answered lots of great questions! Captain Beard presented Sister Connie with a WPD patch and challenge coins and the sisters provided a blessing to us. We had a great time hanging out and look forward to seeing everyone again real soon!
