Wishing Chief Snow a Happy Retirement in August! We will miss her!

After nearly 40 years of serving Wichita in various roles with the Wichita Fire Department, Elizabeth C. "Tammy" Snow announces her retirement, effective August 2026. She was appointed as the department chief in 2017, becoming the first female fire chief since the founding of the Wichita Fire Department in 1886.

“While I look forward to the next chapter of my life, I do so with deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve this community,” said Chief Snow. “I remain fully committed to ensuring a stable, deliberate and professional transition that positions the Wichita Fire Department and the City for continued success.”

Congratulations to FIRE for winning the 31st Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive! Our final vote totals were:

Fire: 257
EMS: 207
Law: 198

Together we raised 823 pints of blood and 685 units of platelets!

Thank you to our first responder agencies that gave their time to this competition, including Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Sedgwick County Government, Sedgwick County Fire District 1, Wichita Fire Department, and Wichita Police Department, as well as the donors who gave their blood to keep the supply steady through the winter months.
