District 1 Breakfast Update

Due to a scheduling conflict with Wichita State University and the Labor Day weekend, which may prevent many residents from attending, we are rescheduling our upcoming District 1 Breakfast for a later date.

However, we want everyone to save the date and plan to attend the 29th & Grove Contamination Open House, which will serve as our September District 1 Breakfast.

This will be an important opportunity to hear directly from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment about the progress being made toward remediating the groundwater contamination at the 29th & Grove site.

Open House Logistics

Who: Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE)
What: Open house providing information on the progress of groundwater contamination remediation at the 29th & Grove site
When: Saturday, September 12, 2026 | 1–4 p.m.
Where: Brewer Community Center, Multipurpose Room 114
1329 E. 16th St. N., Wichita, KS 67214

We look forward to seeing our District 1 neighbors there and continuing to make sure our community has access to information, answers, and a seat at the table.

🚧 Douglas Avenue Pilot 🚧

Don't forget! There is construction for a pilot project along Douglas from Washington to Grove. The pilot aims to slow down cars, improve safety for pedestrians and students, and reduce crashes.

Changes for the pilot include converting to a three-lane roadway configuration with on-street bicycle lanes, curb extensions, parking modifications, and enhanced crosswalks.

➡️ City staff will collect pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular counts; monitor intersections to determine whether traffic signal timing modifications are needed; and collect speed and travel-time data.

To help with school traffic, no work will be done during the week between I-135 and Grove while school is in session.
