Day 3 marked the final day of fun at LAW Camp 2026, and a little rain and cloudy skies did not stop our LEADERS, ACHIEVERS, and WINNERS!

From G-O-A-T winners to a very special closing flag folding ceremony presented by the Kansas Highway Patrol Honor Guard, campers wrapped up an incredible three days of learning, leadership, teamwork, and fun.

The day concluded with a dance party, lunch grilled by the Wichita Wagonmasters, and an opportunity for campers to get up close with first responder vehicles and specialized equipment from agencies across Kansas, including the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Wichita Police Department SWAT and Bomb Squad, and many others.

This spectacular camp would not be possible without the outstanding partnership between the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Wichita Metro Crime Commission, Inc. and its many members, Wichita Police Department, City of Wichita- Government Park & Recreation, Sedgwick County Government, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Air National Guard, and the many public safety agencies and volunteers who dedicated their time to making LAW Camp 2026 a success.

As Day 2 of LAW Camp 2026 comes to a close, campers can look back on another day filled with fun, new friendships, and valuable experiences.

From team activities to hands-on experiences, campers continued building leadership skills while creating memories with fellow campers and first responders from across Kansas.

With one day remaining, these Leaders, Achievers, and Winners still have plenty to look forward to as LAW Camp 2026 continues.

Day 1 of LAW Camp 2026 is in the books!

Our Leaders, Achievers, and Winners had a day packed full of fun. Campers took part in K-9 demonstrations, firefighter challenges, kayaking, fishing, defensive tactics, and a variety of other activities throughout the day.

The campers also had the opportunity to spend time with first responders from agencies across Kansas, learning new skills and making connections along the way.

And this was only Day 1. With two more days to go, there is still plenty of fun ahead and many more memories to be made.

LAW Camp 2026 is in full swing.

More than 130 campers are spending the week participating in leadership activities, team-building exercises, and hands-on learning opportunities alongside first responders from across Kansas. Through these experiences, campers are building confidence, developing leadership skills, and creating positive connections with the public safety professionals who serve their communities.

We look forward to sharing more from LAW Camp 2026 over the next few days.

LAW Camp volunteers are prepped and ready for Day One tomorrow morning!

The Wichita Metro Crime Commission, Inc., alongside the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office and more than 100 first responder volunteers from agencies across Kansas, has completed final preparations for the start of LAW Camp 2026 at O.J. Watson Park.

Over the next three days, a record-breaking 130+ campers, ages 10–14, will participate in leadership activities, team-building challenges, hands-on demonstrations, and educational experiences designed to build confidence, character, and positive relationships with the public safety professionals who serve their communities every day.

We're excited to welcome our campers tomorrow and kick off three days of learning, leadership, teamwork, and fun.

The Kansas Offender Registration Act has been amended by the Kansas Legislature and signed into law by the Governor.

Effective July 1, 2026, all offenders who are required to register and who reside, work, or attend school in the State of Kansas must pay a $30 registration fee at each quarterly registration. This is an increase of $10 per quarterly registration.

Full details regarding these changes can be found in 2026 Senate Bill 487, the legislation through which the amendments were enacted.

Yesterday evening, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office celebrated the graduation of Detention Academy Class 2 of 2026 during a commencement ceremony held at Evangel Wichita.

Five new detention deputies were recognized for successfully completing 10 weeks of intensive training. Their coursework included interpersonal communication, policies and procedures, legal issues, computer systems, and defensive tactics, preparing them for the important responsibilities ahead.

Sheriff Jeff Easter welcomed the graduates as they begin their careers serving the citizens of Sedgwick County. The newly sworn deputies will now enter field training, where they will work alongside experienced staff within the detention facility.

Please join us in congratulating our newest deputies on this significant achievement and thanking them for their commitment to public service. We wish them continued success as they begin this rewarding career serving our community.

Today, our commissioned deputy recruits made their way to Lake Afton for DUI Day, a full day dedicated to impaired driving investigation training.

Throughout the day, recruits worked through realistic DUI investigation scenarios and applied the knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom. From initial contact and field sobriety testing to documentation and evidence collection, each step of the investigative process was put into practice.

These hands-on training opportunities are essential in preparing our future deputies to properly investigate impaired driving offenses, collect evidence, and help keep our community safe.

Yesterday, we were honored to host students from Haysville GEAR UP for a tour of the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility.

Haysville GEAR UP helps students prepare for life after high school through academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, college visits, financial aid counseling, and summer enrichment opportunities.

During their visit, students got a behind-the-scenes look at the jail and learned about the important work our detention staff do every day to keep the facility safe and running smoothly. They also had the opportunity to learn about careers in corrections and public service.

Thank you to Haysville GEAR UP for spending part of their day with us. We enjoyed meeting these students and sharing what happens inside the Adult Detention Facility while they continue working toward their future goals.
