As we support USD 259's new personal electronic device policy, the Juvenile Intervention Unit encourages families to embrace the benefits of a device-free school day.

Research shows fewer distractions can lead to better focus, stronger academic performance, improved social connections, and reduced stress from constant notifications and social media.

Parents can help by talking positively about the change, creating device-free time at home, and encouraging face-to-face interactions.

Together, we can help our youth stay engaged, connected, and focused on learning.

What a beautiful morning and a great day for some kickball at the 3rd Annual Kick-A-Palooza! This Bats & Badges event, in partnership with League 42 and the Wichita Metro Crime Commission, brought together officers from the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for a day of fun, connection, and friendly competition.

For many of the kids who participate, their interactions with law enforcement may have been during difficult or challenging situations. Bats & Badges helps create a different experience by giving kids and officers the opportunity to connect on common ground…on the field, in the dugout, and while sharing a meal.

These positive interactions help build trust and relationships, allowing kids to see first responders as mentors, role models, and community members who genuinely care about their well-being and success. Events like this remind us that some of the strongest connections are built through simple moments of laughter, teamwork, and time spent together.

This exciting annual event gives kids ages 10-14 the chance to make strong connections with local law enforcement officers and first responders while building confidence, leadership skills and self esteem through various activities.

Organized by volunteers from Sedgwick County Fire District 1 (SCFD1), the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, the Wichita Police Department and McConnell Air Force Base, this three-day camp will give your child a summer adventure like no other.☀️
