Starting today, August 31, the intersection at 53rd Street and Oliver is now a four-way stop. The change is intended to improve safety and help reduce the risk of future accidents.

In addition to installing blinking LED stop signs on Oliver, new pavement markings and stop ahead signs have been added to improve visibility and give drivers advance notice as they approach the intersection.

The Fall 2026 Curbside Clean-Up is just about one month away! On Saturday, October 3, Waste Connections will make one pass through the city, so please have all items organized and set at the curb (not in trash or recycling carts) before 6 a.m.

Please carefully review the list of allowed items below. Any items not in compliance will be left at your curb.

✅ General trash (not in trash or recycle carts - must be in throwaway containers such as boxes or bags, no more than 30-gallon capacity)
✅ Small amounts of brush or limbs (cut into 3-foot lengths and bundled)
✅ Dried & empty paint cans (lids must be off)
✅ Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners (must have freon removed and be tagged by a technician stating that freon has been removed)
✅ Small electrical appliances
✅ Furniture that can be handled safely by one person, such as chairs and tables
✅ Patio grills
✅ Mattresses
✅ Lawn trimmers and push lawnmowers (free of gas and oil)

Phase One of the Woodlawn Reconstruction Project is nearing completion, with asphalt paving from Quail Ridge Street to Rodeo Street scheduled for this week, weather permitting.

During paving, drivers should expect increased construction traffic and activity in the area. If possible, drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use an alternate route while paving operations are underway.

On Monday, August 24, crews will transition to Phase Two, which will close Woodlawn from Rodeo Street north to Woodlawn Court. This phase is estimated to take approximately six months to complete.

Danbury and 44th Street access to Woodlawn will be closed. Traffic from the north will detour using 45th Street. Traffic from Woodlawn Court will detour south.

This phase will not require full roadway closures. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers are anticipated.

Phase timelines have been updated to account for potential lime treatment of the subgrade if soft or unstable soil is discovered. Timelines are based on current estimates and may be impacted by weather or other unforeseen conditions.

🏡 Proposed STR Regulations

The Bel Aire City Council will be discussing short-term rentals (STRs) at our next meeting. This topic was first brought to Council’s attention in October 2025, and staff has now prepared draft regulations for Council to review and discuss. No final action will be taken at this meeting, but we expect to consider and vote on final regulations soon.

I’d appreciate hearing from Bel Aire residents and anyone who may be affected. Take a look at the draft and let me know your thoughts, concerns, or questions. A staff report and draft regulations can be found in 8/18/2026 meeting packet under Discussion and Future Issues.

As a reminder, the intersection at 53rd Street and Woodlawn will convert to a four-way stop, starting tomorrow, Monday, August 10. If you are traveling through the area, please be prepared to stop in all directions and use extra caution as drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern.

In addition to installing blinking LED stop signs in all four directions with new pavement markings, stop ahead signs will be added to improve visibility and give drivers advance notice as they approach the intersection.

As part of the 2026 Street Maintenance Project, the intersection at 53rd Street and Rock Road will be closed starting Monday, July 20, for a full-depth replacement. This closure is anticipated to last for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

During the closure, drivers should follow the designated detour routes at K-254, Webb, 45th, and Woodlawn.

Do you have branches or brush that need to be disposed of? The Kechi Brush Site will be open this Saturday, July 11, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Thanks to a cooperative agreement with the City of Kechi, all Bel Aire residents have access to the site, which is open on the second Saturday of each month. Just bring proof of address, such as a driver's license or utility bill. For directions, visit the link in our bio.

Please note that tree trunks, leaves, grass clippings, wood pallets, siding, or trash are not accepted.
