Trash Collection Service Update 🚛

We appreciate your patience as our Sanitation Division continues working through staffing shortages and equipment-related challenges.

Our crews are making every effort to maintain regular service, and despite these setbacks, residents have continued to receive their scheduled twice-weekly trash collection. However, some routes may experience delays.

A few important reminders:

• Collection days remain the same, but pickup times may vary. A cart collected in the morning one week may not be serviced until later in the day the next.

• If your cart is not emptied on its scheduled collection day, please leave it at the curb. Our crews will continue working to complete routes and will return the following day when necessary.

• Once your cart has been serviced, please return it to your property as soon as practical.

Our drivers are working extended hours each day to complete routes, and we are actively hiring and training new personnel to help improve service reliability.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work through these temporary challenges.

We're getting a fresh new look!

The City of Wichita Falls website will launch a redesigned experience on Tuesday, June 9, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The new site includes improved navigation, enhanced accessibility features, and a more user-friendly design.

Online services should remain available throughout the transition, but you may notice a few temporary changes as we make the switch. Thank you for your patience as we roll out these improvements!

A recent national study looking at historic main streets across the country found something we’re excited to see. Indiana Avenue in downtown Wichita Falls was identified as the #1 street Texans most want to see revived.

Indiana Avenue has long been part of our city’s story, and this finding highlights what our community already feels. There is real interest in seeing new life, energy, and investment return to our downtown core.

Now we want to hear from you.

If Indiana Avenue had a “revival,” what would you like to see there? More dining? Local shops? Housing? Entertainment? Green space? Events? Something completely new?

Drop your ideas in the comments and help shape the conversation about the future of one of Wichita Falls’ most historic corridors.

Yesterday, members of our City of Wichita Falls team had the honor of attending the unveiling of the Kelly Crush Memorial Park.

Kelly Crush embodied the very best of public service. As a dedicated firefighter, he continued serving our community with courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment while battling ALS. His impact extended far beyond his profession, touching the lives of countless colleagues, friends, and residents throughout Wichita Falls.

The memorial park serves as a lasting tribute to Kelly’s strength, perseverance, and legacy of service. It was inspiring to see family, friends, first responders, and community members come together to celebrate a life that made such a meaningful difference. 💙

The City of Wichita Falls is proud to honor Kelly’s memory and recognize the lasting influence he has had on our community. His dedication and selflessness will continue to inspire future generations of public servants.

When an unexpected weather event diverted a flight to Wichita Falls Regional Airport, dozens of travelers found themselves stranded far from home.

In true Wichita Falls fashion, our community came together. The Mayor, City Council members, city and county leaders, Emergency Management staff, firefighters, airport personnel, and many others quickly coordinated to provide temporary sleeping accommodations and support for passengers facing an unexpected overnight stay.

While the situation was beyond anyone's control, our goal was simple: make sure our guests felt safe, cared for, and welcomed during an uncertain moment.

Thank you to everyone who stepped up, worked late into the night, and demonstrated what community service looks like in action in Wichita Falls.

The City of Wichita Falls Employee of the Month for June is Paige Lessor! 🌟

Paige is the Deputy City Clerk, but spent time in our Legal Department as their Executive Legal Assistant. She has been pulling double duty by learning her new role as Deputy City Clerk and also helping train her replacement in the Legal Department. She is also a donut connoisseur and is partial to Circle M chocolate-glazed donuts. 🍩

🎉Please help us congratulate our June Employee of the Month! Learn more about her by clicking this link ➡️ https://youtu.be/oYRq3GeQL14

There was a lot to celebrate at today's City Council meeting.

🌟 We recognized our Code Compliance Division for the vital role they play in preserving neighborhoods to protect public health, safety, and quality of life. In 2025, they handled more than 8,800 cases and conducted more than 16,800 inspections. This week has been proclaimed as Code Enforcement Officers Appreciation Week.

🌟 Members of Adult Protective Services were recognized for the hard work they do to ensure the health, safety, and rights of the elderly. In Wichita County, there were 1,752 reports of elder abuse in 2025. June 2026 was proclaimed by Mayor Tim Short as Elder Abuse Awareness Month.

🌟 We also celebrated a Wichita Falls ISD student for having nearly perfect attendance from kindergarten through 12th grade. Javin Torres was recognized during today's City Council meeting for having only one excused absence in his entire thirteen years in school. He recently graduated from Legacy High School and was very involved in many extracurricular activities, including sports, choir, Key Club, and Youth Leadership Academy. Javin plans to attend Midwestern State University to study Education.

Our Public Information Office is traveling to attend the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers Conference in Austin, so there will be no Council Wrap today. We’ll be back next council meeting!
