Today, June 1, marks the beginning of a new League year under President Isha Howerton. At our recent Annual Dinner, Isha gave a speech where she announced her vision for the upcoming year.
Today, we are happy to share that vision with you. Below, you'll find a condensed version of her speech.
"This year, our theme is The Power of One.
Real change almost always starts with one.
One person who says yes. One person who steps forward. One person who decides they care enough to make a change.
It only takes one spark to start a fire. One voice to speak up. One idea to create momentum.
And when that one inspires another one, and another one, suddenly something powerful begins to happen.
That is exactly what the Junior League has always done.
It’s women choosing to give of themselves for the communities they love.
Women willing to volunteer, lead, serve, advocate, organize, mentor, and work behind the scenes not for recognition, but because they truly want to make things better.
That is the heartbeat of this organization.
Our mission is not only about serving our community. It is also about developing women to lead within it and beyond. The Junior League gives women the opportunity to discover strengths they may not have even realized they had. It teaches leadership, teamwork, resilience, compassion, and confidence.
And then those women go back into this community and make an impact.
In schools. On nonprofit boards. In businesses. In churches. In hospitals. In homes. Across Wichita Falls and beyond.
That is something to be proud of.
Sometimes all it takes is one person willing to step forward and say, “I’ll do it.”
Because the truth is, every movement, every change, started with someone deciding to take that first step.
My hope is that we lean into the Power of One.
That we recognize the impact each ONE of us has individually, and how powerful we become when we bring those efforts together.
And at the end of the day, when there is work to be done, when our community needs leaders, when someone needs help, when something needs to change… be the one.
If not you, then who?"
Isha Howerton, 2026-2027 Junior League of Wichita Falls President
