Today, on Women Veterans Day, we honor the women who have served our country with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication.

Women veterans have answered the call to serve in countless ways, often breaking barriers while carrying the weight of service with strength and resilience. Their commitment to something greater than themselves continues to inspire future generations.

We are especially proud to recognize the women within our membership who have served in our nation’s armed forces. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your continued impact on the communities around you. 🇺🇸

Today, June 1, marks the beginning of a new League year under President Isha Howerton. At our recent Annual Dinner, Isha gave a speech where she announced her vision for the upcoming year.

Today, we are happy to share that vision with you. Below, you'll find a condensed version of her speech.

"This year, our theme is The Power of One.

Real change almost always starts with one.

One person who says yes. One person who steps forward. One person who decides they care enough to make a change.

It only takes one spark to start a fire. One voice to speak up. One idea to create momentum.

And when that one inspires another one, and another one, suddenly something powerful begins to happen.

That is exactly what the Junior League has always done.

It’s women choosing to give of themselves for the communities they love.

Women willing to volunteer, lead, serve, advocate, organize, mentor, and work behind the scenes not for recognition, but because they truly want to make things better.

That is the heartbeat of this organization.

Our mission is not only about serving our community. It is also about developing women to lead within it and beyond. The Junior League gives women the opportunity to discover strengths they may not have even realized they had. It teaches leadership, teamwork, resilience, compassion, and confidence.

And then those women go back into this community and make an impact.

In schools. On nonprofit boards. In businesses. In churches. In hospitals. In homes. Across Wichita Falls and beyond.

That is something to be proud of.

Sometimes all it takes is one person willing to step forward and say, “I’ll do it.”
Because the truth is, every movement, every change, started with someone deciding to take that first step.

My hope is that we lean into the Power of One.

That we recognize the impact each ONE of us has individually, and how powerful we become when we bring those efforts together.

And at the end of the day, when there is work to be done, when our community needs leaders, when someone needs help, when something needs to change… be the one.

If not you, then who?"

Isha Howerton, 2026-2027 Junior League of Wichita Falls President

The Junior League of Wichita Falls has supported the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank for over 25 years because hunger directly affects families, children, schools, and the overall stability of the Wichita Falls community. The JLWF mission is centered on improving the community through volunteerism and leadership, and food insecurity is one of the area’s most immediate needs.

A few reasons this partnership matters so much:

The Junior League’s “Partners in Education” program helps provide weekend food through the Food Bank’s PowerPak 4 Kids initiative for children who may not have reliable meals outside of school. That means kids can come back to class healthier, more focused, and better prepared to learn.

Our annual “Food Fight” campaign raises thousands of pounds of food every year. Since the program began, the organization has collected tens of thousands of pounds of nonperishable food for local families.

Our partnership combines money, volunteers, and public awareness. The Junior League doesn’t just donate funds. Members organize drives, recruit businesses, volunteer their time, and mobilize the wider community.

Supporting the Food Bank aligns with the League’s broader mission of helping women and children thrive. Hunger affects school attendance, health, emotional well-being, and family stability, so addressing food insecurity creates ripple effects across the entire region.

In a mid-sized community like Wichita Falls, local nonprofits depend heavily on partnerships. When organizations like the Junior League and Food Bank work together, they can respond faster and reach more people than either could alone.

The partnership is important because it turns community concern into practical action: feeding children on weekends, helping struggling families, and strengthening the local safety net for Wichita Falls and surrounding Texoma communities.

With the new facility, the ability to support even more families through access to fresh, nutritious food, expanded educational programs, and disaster relief services makes this $25,000 gift more than just a financial donation. It is an investment in the future of our community that will make a difference for generations to come.

Our outgoing President Kristan Neeb gave the following inspiring words at our recent annual dinner and we wanted to share some of them with you.

"When I stood before you last year to accept this gavel, I spoke about the power of our collective story. I knew that the Junior League of Wichita Falls had a rich history, but I couldn't have predicted the incredible chapters we would write together over the last twelve months."

Kristan shared about the League Center's upgrades, including a kitchenette renovation, two bathroom remodels, and the addition of some features that will help all of our League moms like a changing table.

She shared about how League leaned into AJLI's "Every Woman. All Things" iniative with our monthly and annual trainings, helping us to disrupt the narrative that women are supposed to be burnt out all the time.

She also discussed the Thrive 125 iniative, where we are committing to a five-year roadmap to strengthen our membership and modernize our operations.

Kristan closed her speech with the following:

"As I pass this gavel, I do so with a full heart. This journey has taught me how to lead with grace and the vital lesson that "letting go" is sometimes the best way to lead. I’ve learned that while we may all work differently, our collaboration toward a shared goal is where the magic happens.

Never forget that while you may be just one single person, there is an incredible strength in our numbers. Invite one more friend to an affinity group. Join one more activity outside of your committee. That single act of intentionality, combined with the efforts of your sisters in service, creates an immeasurable ripple of impact.
Thank you for trusting me, for encouraging me, and for all your help in Telling Our Story this past year. Here’s to the next chapter, to our continued mission of developing women to do a world of good, and to the extraordinary members who make it all possible."

Thank you, Kristan! We have loved our chapter under your leadership.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice made possible the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy each day, and we are forever grateful.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we also take a moment to reflect on the courage, service, and selflessness of those who never made it home.

We remember. 🇺🇸
