Fawn Season Reminder

It’s fawn season, and we want to gently remind everyone: please do not disturb, pick up, or take fawns that appear to be alone.

They are not abandoned. Mother deer often leave their fawns in a safe spot while they forage and will return for them. This is normal behavior, and the fawns will be okay.

State Park Rule: 59.134 (BB) Wildlife:
It is an offense to: (1) Harm, Harass, Disturb, Wildlife, or portions of wildlife from a unit of the state park system, Except by a permit isssued by the director as provided by the Parks and Wildlife code, Chapter 62, Subchapter D.

Please help us protect our wildlife by giving them space.

Also, please always watch your speed in the park during early mornings and late afternoons. Wildlife is more active during these times, and slowing down helps keep everyone safe.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Lake Whitney State Park Staff

🦋 A Special Thank You to the Pablo Family! 🦋

A big thank you to the Pablo Family for joining us at our Painted Wings Life Cycle Program at Lake Whitney State Park!

Together, we explored the fascinating world of Central Texas butterflies, learning about their life cycles, habitats, favorite host plants, migration journeys, and the important role they play in nature. Participants also had the chance to snap some fun selfies with our life-size butterfly and take home colorful 3D butterfly keepsakes as a reminder of their visit to the park.

We hope you enjoyed discovering the incredible transformations that butterflies go through and gained a new appreciation for these beautiful pollinators.

Thank you to the Pablo Family and to everyone who came out to make this event such a wonderful success. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and love for nature help make programs like these memorable for all ages.

Keep exploring, keep learning, and keep your eyes open—you never know when a beautiful butterfly might flutter by! 🦋

There’s nothing quite like a little boy’s fishing trip and the excitement of that very first catch.

The Pina Family made some wonderful memories at Lake Whitney State Park this weekend, and young Noah had a fishing story he’ll never forget after reeling in his very first fish — a Largemouth Bass measuring approximately 13 inches long!

From watching the line wiggle to the excitement of finally bringing it to shore, moments like these are what outdoor adventures are all about. Big or small, every fish comes with a story, a smile, and a memory that lasts forever.

Congratulations, Noah! Here’s to many more casts, catches, and fishing adventures ahead. 🐠

May shines in warmer days, fresh beginnings, and several meaningful celebrations. The month kicks off with Cinco de Mayo, followed by Mother’s Day, a special time to honor the mothers and mother figures in our lives. As the month comes to a close, we observe Memorial Day, a day of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. May is a month filled with appreciation, reflection, and the promise of summer just around the corner.
