Please Read and Be Aware

A local resident received a text message from 502-401-7995, which appeared on her phone as (Siri) Pastor.
This person knew this pastor but thought his number was unusual. She assumed he might have a second phone. The message stated that the Pastor was at the hospital and needed to ask her a favor. He needed Apple gift cards for some women battling cancer, but he couldn’t get them because he was in meetings.
The request was for 3 cards, each worth $200. She then went to Brookshires to get the cards and ran into a friend who was also there buying cards for the Pastor.
After becoming suspicious, she re-read the messages from earlier that day, and the grammar didn’t seem to be what she thought the Pastor would have typed. So, she called the Pastor, and it turned out that he was aware of a scam from another Pastor that had also happened to his church.
This kind resident now knows this was from overseas and asked Whitney Police to post something on Facebook and the website advising people about this scam.

Be careful out there.
