Yesterday with over 100 participants, McCreary County came together to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of 9/11/2001.

The MCHS Band, Madrigals, and JROTC under Leadership of Michelle Simpson, Megan Byrge, Sgt. Garry Galloway, and Staff Sgt. Travis Crabtree lead the program from start to finish.

We appreciate so much the efforts of McCreary County Tourism Director Michelle Perry, ABC Director Brenda Blevins and McCreary County Library Director Grady Wilson for setting up the sound equipment. Something played out beautifully in that when one of us has a difficulty, we all pitch in to offer solutions.

So thankful for the content, a well attended event, Judge Jimmie "Bevo" Greene and his vision for this time spent in a special way. Thank you to everyone who participated!

We will never forget.

🇺🇸 COURTHOUSE SERVICES NOTICE — 9/11 MEMORIAL SERVICE

McCreary County Fiscal Court would like to make the public aware that courthouse services will be limited today from 1:00–2:00 PM due to offices closing for staff to participate. Our county will gather on the courthouse steps for a special 25th Anniversary September 11th Memorial Service.

This Service is outside and there is plenty of room for all to attend. We hope you can commemorate today with us!

Twenty-five years ago, on a Tuesday morning, our nation experienced a tragedy that changed almost everything. The events of September 11, 2001, forever shaped a generation and reminded us of the tremendous sacrifice of our first responders, military members, and ordinary Americans who answered the call to serve.

We invite our community to come by the McCreary County Courthouse at 1:00 PM and join us as we remember the lives lost, honor those who served, and reflect on a monumental day in American history.

We appreciate the public’s patience with limited courthouse services during this hour and hope you will join us in remembrance.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

A big thank you to Mr. Cole Burke, JAG teacher at McCreary Central High School, for inviting Judge Executive Jimmie "Bevo" Greene and me to come speak with his classes about careers, public service, and the role of local county government on Friday September, 4th.

JAG — Jobs for America’s Graduates — is about helping young people prepare for life beyond high school by developing leadership skills, exploring career opportunities, and connecting what they learn in the classroom with the real world.

We enjoyed getting to talk with these students about what county government actually does every day. From roads, emergency services, parks, economic development, budgeting, and community projects to working with businesses and state and federal partners, there are a lot of people and careers involved in keeping a county moving forward.

One of the things we especially wanted these students to understand is that there are opportunities to build a career and make a difference right here at home. Public service needs good people from every background and skill set — whether your interests are business, technology, public safety, skilled trades, finance, communications, administration, or leadership.

Thank you again, Mr. Burke, for investing in our young people and for giving us the opportunity to spend some time with them. Judge Greene and I are always glad to talk with the next generation about their future and the many ways they can serve and strengthen McCreary County.

Our young people aren’t just the future of McCreary County — they’re an important part of it right now.

🇺🇸 McCreary County Remembers — 25 Years Later

The McCreary County Fiscal Court invites our entire community to join us on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM on the McCreary County Courthouse Steps as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

For 25 years, our nation has carried the memory of those we lost and the examples of courage, sacrifice, service, and unity we witnessed in the days that followed.

Our memorial service will bring together the McCreary Central JROTC, Choir and Band, the VFW, American Legion, our local first responders, community organizations, businesses, public servants, students, veterans, and citizens.

We especially invite our veterans, firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, emergency personnel, local merchants, banks, utilities, churches, schools, McCreary County Public Library, civic organizations, and families throughout McCreary County to attend.

Whether you remember exactly where you were on September 11, 2001, or you belong to a generation born afterward, this is an opportunity for us to stand together as one community and ensure that the meaning of that day is passed on.

WHITLEY CITY, KY – U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) joined Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers and State Rep. Ken Upchurch at the McCreary County Courthouse on Tuesday to deliver federal and state funds for local projects in McCreary County.

Congressman Rogers presented a federal check for $2 million in Community Project Funding to McCreary County Judge Executive Jimmie “Bevo” Greene and Fire Chief Tim Perry for construction of the new Northern McCreary County Firehouse.

“I’m proud to support our first responders who stand on the front lines of this community every single day, especially our volunteer firefighters who provide wide-spread emergency services across the most rural parts of our counties,” said Congressman Rogers, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee. “The funding for the Northern McCreary County Firehouse was signed into law by President Trump in February, and I’m proud to deliver the check to Judge Greene and Chief Perry today.”

“We are grateful to Congressman Rogers for this funding for the new fire station for the Northern McCreary Fire Department,” said Judge Greene. “All of the projects mentioned today are very important to this county and we should never lose sight of how important our federal and state partners are to us. We are forever grateful for the investments in Stearns and our infrastructure throughout the county.”

Today was an exciting day for our region as we joined The Center for Rural Development for the groundbreaking of its new Regional Training Center!

We are incredibly thankful for this investment and excited about the opportunities these new facilities will create for workforce development, education, and economic growth throughout Southern Kentucky, including right here in McCreary County.

Progress like this is made possible through continued partnership, vision, and hard work. Together, we are building a stronger region and making the place we call home better and better! 🏗️💙
