City of Whiteville Fire Department The Whiteville Fire Department is manned by 3 shifts. Each shift consist of 1 Captain, 1 Lieutenant and 1 Engineer. Class 4 ISO Fire Department

We work a 24 hour shift and have 2 days off between. There is additional paid on call Firefighters that varies throughout the year as well.

With colder temperatures coming to our area, here are some tips to prevent cold weather fires. Keep space heaters and heat sources at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from anything flammable, such as furniture, blankets, or curtains. Never use a stove or oven for home heating, and ensure fireplaces have sturdy screens. Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors monthly.

Key Safety Measures

Heating Equipment: Have chimneys and heating systems inspected annually. Never leave portable heaters on when leaving the room or sleeping.

Space Heaters: Place on a flat, hard surface and plug directly into a wall outlet, not an extension cord.

Fireplaces: Burn only dry, seasoned wood; dispose of cool ashes in a metal container outside.

Generators: Always operate generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Electrical: Do not overload circuits by running multiple high-wattage appliances simultaneously.
