โ˜€๏ธ HEAT SAFETY REMINDER โ˜€๏ธ

As temperatures continue to rise across our area, the Whiteville Police Department would like to remind everyone to take precautions to stay safe in the heat.

๐Ÿš— Never leave children or pets inside a vehicle. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise to dangerous and deadly levels within minutes.

๐Ÿ’ง Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you donโ€™t feel thirsty. Avoid excessive amounts of caffeine and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration.

๐Ÿ‘• Dress appropriately. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use sunscreen when spending time outdoors.

๐ŸŒณ Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning. If you must be outside, limit strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.

๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿ‘ต Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and those with medical conditions. They may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

๐Ÿพ Protect your pets. Ensure they have access to fresh water and shade. Remember that hot pavement can burn their paws.

โš ๏ธ Know the signs of heat-related illness: dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, confusion, or fainting. If someone is experiencing these symptoms, move them to a cooler area and seek medical attention if necessary.

Letโ€™s work together to keep our community safe this summer. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for one another!
