Scam Alert!!

College student received call from Kristie with US Government Grants phone number 1-206-201-2786 informing victim she will receive a grant for nine thousand dollars and all she had to do was send them two hundred dollars on a green dot card.

Scam Alert!!!
Citizens of Knott and Letcher County receiving calls from 202599-9603 male subject identifying self as agent with IRS informing caller that he or she owes a large amount of money and the FBI will arrest them.

Citizens are getting phone calls from unknown caller using prefix 633 numbers wanting to lower your interest rates.....Use caution this is a scam.

Attention Citizens:
The Letcher County Sheriff's Department has received a scam involving asphalt.

On May 13, 2014 a surrounding county reported 2 male subjects in a one ton truck loaded with asphalt followed by a white ford full size van approached a citizen about purchasing the asphalt but would only accept cash. The male subjects drove the citizen to the bank and attempted to complete the transaction. A call was made to the Sheriff's Office after someone overheard what was happening. The Letcher County Sheriff's Office along with the Knott County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. To avoid being scammed, please do business with a local company that can provide references and do not hesitate to contact the Sheriff's Office if you are in doubt.

On February 25th Turtle Man and Lolly Dog stopped by the Sheriff's Department to say hello. Turtle Man was a surprise visit to Letcher County, I am working on getting him back soon to meet everyone.

Scam Alert! Citizens recieving calls saying they have won a new car from mega-million lottery. Caller-ID shows JM Kingston phone # 876-530-7608. This scam is known to be from Jamaica.

Scam Alert!! Citizens receiving calls about a Government Grant for $10,000 from phone number 202-697-7222, caller requesting personal information plus bank account number. Please do not give out your information.
