Over the past several years, we have received sporadic reports of the same gentleman enjoying our township trails aboard an electric bicycle while wearing… considerably less safety equipment than we would recommend.

He made another appearance today, and this time we were able to obtain a photograph. For everyone’s sake, certain portions of the image have been appropriately “secured.”

We would, however, like to identify our free-spirited cyclist.

If you recognize him or have information that may assist us in identifying him, please contact the police department.

And as a friendly reminder: helmets are strongly encouraged. Pants are even more strongly encouraged.

A bicycle was found behind Station Center Mall and turned over to the Police Department.

If you believe this bicycle belongs to you, please contact us to arrange for pickup. Proof of ownership may be required.

Caught Being Safe is still going strong this summer!

Our officers continue to keep an eye out for kids making safe choices and wearing their helmets while riding their bikes—and rewarding them when they catch them in the act!

The NJ Motor Vehicle Commission’s Mobile Inspection Unit will be at the Readington Township Municipal Building on Friday, August 14th, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. offering drive-up vehicle inspections.

Our Traffic Safety Unit will also be offering free child car seat inspections during the event.

No appointment necessary—first come, first served!

July activity increased compared with June, with 2,680 calls for service, 45 arrests, and 1,908 motor vehicle stops. Despite the increased enforcement activity, reported crashes decreased from 41 in June to 32 in July, a reduction of approximately 22%.

These statistics reflect the continued efforts of our officers to promote public safety throughout Readington Township.

PRESS RELEASE: Two drivers sustained minor injuries in a crash on Route 202 near Summer Road Tuesday evening. One driver was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The crash remains under investigation by the Readington Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.

The Readington Township Police Department is accepting applications for Class III Special Law Enforcement Officers to serve within Readington Township schools.

Qualified applicants must be under 65 years of age at the time of appointment, have retired in good standing from a qualifying law enforcement agency, and meet all New Jersey requirements for appointment and certification as a Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer.

Caught Being Safe!

The Readington Township Police Department has begun its second annual Caught Being Safe campaign.

Today, Ptl. Strohm recognized this young rider for making safe choices while out on their bike. Riders who are “caught being safe” are issued a voucher to one of our participating local businesses, Polar Cub or Rita’s. The campaign will continue throughout the summer.

Great job to this rider, and thank you for helping set a positive example for others in our community.
