Tonight, from 5pm to 9pm, the members of the White Lake Fire Authority will be doing some live fire training in a donated structure located at 708 S. Division in Whitehall.

Division will be closed from the South edge of the residence to Lincoln, and Lincoln will have a closure just to the West of Division that will only be wide enough for supply hose from the hydrant. All driveways will be accessible and there will only be a one block detour for those passing through. This should be minimally disruptive to traffic.

We plan on wrapping up exercises by 8:30, to be completed by 9 pm, to make sure that we are not disrupting any families in the area on a school night.

We are not burning the structure. We are setting small fires inside the structure and allowing crews to make entry and extinguish.

You will see multiple vehicles on the scene. You will also see that that ladder truck will be deployed along with multiples fire hoses for both primary fire attack and secondary back up lines.

The home has been inspected and prepped for firefighter safety, both structure and contents. Thank you to WinBerg Construction for providing the Asbestos inspection to us free of charge, as that is a requirement to be able to do a live training burn.

Thank you to the homeowner for allowing us this great opportunity, and the City of Whitehall for helping make it happen.

If you are in the area tonight, please observe the caution taped areas, as we are going to very particular where we are going to allow the public for safety reasons.

UPDATE: with sincerest apologies, the red flag had a stated expiration on the original notice. In my haste to try to inform the public when I saw it, I missed it. Sorry for any confusion. They are still warning everyone that there is an increased fire danger right now, but the red flag is expired and recreational fires are permitted. We ask that you still be responsible and use caution.

The State of Michigan is currently under a “Red Flag” Warning. This means that NO fires are currently allowed, including recreational fires. This is issued directly from the Governor and is above and beyond a standard “burn ban”, which only applies to open burning.

Scenic Dr is closed between Duck Lake Rd and Marcus Park for a tree down across the road with power line involvement.

Consumers has been notified, and the road commission will begin to clean up as soon as it is rendered safe.

For the time being, please seek an alternate route.

Leadership from the City Of Whitehall, Department of Public Works, Whitehall Police Department, and the White Lake Fire Authority have been monitoring the situation regarding the potential flooding of the White river basin.

After communicating with emergency management in Hesperia, and evaluating all of the potential hazard areas locally, we have determined that there is no emergent concern at this time. We will keep everyone apprised of the situation moving forward, but as of right now, you can continue with business as usual. There are a few locations in the City Of Whitehall and Fruitland Township where roads are impassable, but the impact will be minor. In the event of an emergency, please dial 911 immediately.
