WE DID IT Y’ALL!! Praise God 🙌🏽 What an incredible honor and humbling experience to be elected by the people of Whitehall. 🙇🏽‍♂️

This moment wouldn’t be possible without the love, commitment and support from family, friends, volunteers, and neighbors who believed in what we’re building together. I’m so grateful for every crucial conversation, every word of encouragement, and every person who continues to pour into this community.

It’s a blessing to serve, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. Whitehall has so much going for it, and I’m excited to keep doing my part to help us grow in ways that benefit both current and future residents.

Let’s keep working, keep believing, and keep building together.

We chose Whitehall not because of what it was 50 years ago or because of what it would be 20 years from now, but because of what Whitehall is today. A community filled with great people: residents, administration, school leadership and business owners alike doing their part to improve the city and make a difference in people’s lives.

Every day, I’m reminded that real progress doesn’t come from one person or one position, it comes from neighbors helping neighbors, from families investing in their future here, and from people who care enough to roll up their sleeves and make things better.

That’s why I serve to help strengthen the partnerships, opportunities, and sense of belonging that make Whitehall special. This city has heart, and it’s the people who keep it beating strong.

As Election Day approaches, I just want to say thank you for your trust, your conversations, and your commitment to our shared future. Let’s keep working together to make Whitehall a place where everyone can thrive, today and for generations to come.

I got to talk to the WYHS juniors and seniors at Future Focus Day about Real Estate.

We talked about all the different aspects of Real Estate from home ownership and investing to being a trade partner and impacting your community.

I wish that I would have had someone be able to talk to me about Real Estate when I was a younger person and I’m glad that I had this opportunity to help inspire the next generation.

Supported two amazing Whitehall businesses for my first ever canvass: Art Tees for the shirts ( http://www.artteesinc.net/ )and Flavor 91 for lunch 😋 I love supporting local businesses any chance I get!

Speaking of support, I’m also so grateful for the support from volunteers, residents, and colleagues who continue to show up for me and for our community.

Every conversation, word of encouragement and experience that I encountered today remind me why I serve.

Together, we’re building something bigger than a campaign we’re building a stronger, more connected community.

Get out and Vote on Nov 4 wherever you live and get involved locally in whatever way works for you!

I’m proud to announce that I was recently endorsed by the Columbus Building Trades Council!

I have worked diligently to continue to connect our schools with various trades and industries to offer experience, internships, scholarships and other opportunities to our students during and after high school.

My path after high school was not linear and I understand the value of not going 5-6 figures into debt as an 18 year old who is still trying to figure out what they want to do. My hope is to continue to help expose kids to different career fields like the trades where they don’t have to immediately sign for a ton of crushing debt and can find job security while making a really good life for themselves.

Our region needs thousands of people to enter into the trades in the coming years to keep up with demand/retiring professionals. Columbus is continuing to grow rapidly and attract investment which means more development and infrastructure improvements.

One of my goals is to help Whitehall develop a robust pipeline to fulfill this need

Wanting to see everyone get involved is more than just words for me, it’s who I am. Even though I realize that statistically, many of the people that get involved will disagree with me, it’s all part of creating a more communal society that makes the best decisions for the most amount of people.

My wife and I chose to make Whitehall our home in 2021. We had heard about its “reputation” but what we’ve actually experienced has been overwhelmingly positive.

We know our neighbors, we support our local businesses, and we’ve built real relationships here that feel like family. What we’ve found here is a strong, caring community full of resilience and pride.

That’s exactly why I chose to get involved. I believe in Whitehall and in the people who make it great. Our city isn’t perfect and there’s still plenty of work to do, but with the right leadership we can build on our strengths, keep moving forward, and show others the Whitehall we know and love.

“Devin, you’re not listening! You don’t care about us residents” “You didn’t vote the way I wanted you to, so you don’t represent the people”

I understand people’s frustrations and try not to take these criticisms personally. People want to feel heard & understood and when they share their concerns and they feel like nothing changes, it reinforces the idea that leaders don’t care. Unfortunately leadership comes with having to make tough decisions that aren’t always popular based on the information available, their experience and what they believe is best for the entire community.

I’ve learned that listening, learning, and being willing to adjust when presented with new information is key. I don’t pretend to have all the answers but I take pride in approaching issues with objectivity, considering all sides, and finding common ground that moves Whitehall forward.

That’s why I’ve spent countless hours listening to residents whether it’s inviting people into my home, sitting down with them in theirs, or having conversations on neighborhood walks. Some of the most meaningful progress I’ve made has come from those one on one conversations and the lessons learned from people who don’t always agree with me.

As we look ahead, I’ll keep working the same way: putting people over politics, building bridges instead of walls, and making sure every resident has a voice in shaping Whitehall’s future

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to travel, meet people from all walks of life, and learn lessons from all over that I’ve carried back home. I like to think of myself as a sponge always curious, always learning, and always looking for ways to apply what I’ve picked up to help my community.

From those experiences, I’ve focused my work around three key areas:
• Community Investment
• Economic & Real Estate Development
• Environmental Impact & Connection to Nature

For me, the central question is this: How do we manage Whitehall’s growth intentionally so we don’t displace low- and fixed-income residents, while also limiting the negative and maximizing the positive impact on our environment?

Displacement – Growth should not come at the expense of our neighbors. We need to ensure that the businesses we attract are true partners in the community investing back into Whitehall and creating quality jobs for our residents. At the same time, we must expand programs and services that relieve financial burdens while opening new pathways for workforce development.

Environment – Growth and sustainability must go hand in hand. That means supporting efforts to maintain and enhance our tree inventory, expanding access to parks and green spaces, supporting walkable and bike-friendly neighborhoods, and embracing initiatives that reduce waste and energy use. Protecting our environment is about more than conservation it’s about ensuring a healthier, more vibrant city for generations to come.

At the heart of it all, my travels and experiences remind me that public, private, and individual needs can work together. My curiosity keeps me humble enough to know there’s always more to learn from others.

I strive to represent Whitehall in a way that honors our community and continues to help change the narrative of our city for the better.

When my wife and I learned we might be moving to Whitehall, I thought, “If this is going to be our home, I should probably get involved here too.”

So, I started showing up to council meetings. Taking so many notes that people thought I was a reporter 🤣

As a young person eager to contribute, with education and experience that fit the work, I was given the chance to get involved right away. Councilwoman Amy Smith nominated me to the Charter Review Committee, where I was later chosen by the committee to serve as chair.

From there, Mayor Kim Maggard appointed me to the Board of Zoning & Building Appeals (BZBA). It was during that time that I truly started to find my voice and recognize the value I could bring to the community.

Most recently, I have been serving as the Ward 4 City Council Representative after being appointed by Mayor Michael Bivens. I’ve been extremely proud to serve in this capacity where I have continued to develop meaningful relationships, support our small businesses, and bring unique perspectives and ideas to the community.

At 24, after a six-year break from school, I made the decision to go back and finish my degree and it turned out to be one of the best choices I’ve ever made.

This time around, I wanted more than just an education. I committed to getting involved, showing up not just for myself but for others. What started as a simple decision to engage quickly grew into something much bigger: part of my purpose in life.

I graduated with honors from Columbus State Community College in International Studies, and from The Ohio State University in Real Estate & Urban Analysis and City & Regional Planning.

Along the way, I discovered something that has shaped me as a person and as a leader: relationships matter more than anything else. Every step I’ve taken, every opportunity I’ve embraced, has been rooted in building authentic connections. That commitment to people is what continues to guide the way I serve today whether in business, in community, or on City Council. For me, leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about showing up, building trust, and creating opportunities for others.
