Ever had a rough day at work? Something many of us have experienced. On Thursday, May 14th Public Works Director, Kory Klapen found himself in a rather precarious situation. After he and the Public Works Team worked diligently to fix the water break, his day wasn’t done. At approximately 11pm Kory continued to work, attempting to fix the sprinkler system at the Whitehall cemetery. With tools in hand, a flashlight he tested the system but was interrupted abruptly by local law enforcement. No arrest was made, no one was injured and the grass is now being watered regularly.

Thank you all the staff at Town Hall and the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department for serving our community.

This spring has been busy around town with various projects. What you’re seeing with sidewalks is the TA grant which is state and federal funds benefiting Whitehall. This project has been several years in the making and a small fraction came from our town budget.

Also, the TIFF (local taxes) continues to make major improvements to other sidewalks around town. Residents can apply for 50/50 matches for sidewalks as well.

For Whitehall residents concerned about chlorinated water…

Some facts are important, our Chlorine is not expired, DEQ requested use of the existing batch which is 8.5% while 12.5% is fresh chlorine percent.

Water leaves the treatment plant at above just 1.0% and can be no higher than 4.0%. The highest recorded level in past couple months was no higher than 1.7%. As you can see Public works is keeping the levels at the lowest percent possible as required by DEQ.

If you are interested in a tour of how the treatment plant operates please call Town Hall and ext #3, Kory Klappen will gladly meet with you and show you how the operation works.

ATTENTION TOWN OF WHITEHALL VOTERS

NEW BIRTH YEAR AFFIRMATION REQUIREMENT ON ABSENTEE & MAIL IN BALLOTS

In the 2025 Montana Legislative session, House Bill 719 was passed that now requires voters to provide their year of birth on the affirmation envelope. Please be sure that before submitting your voted ballot to the Election Office, that the affirmation envelope includes your signature along with your year of birth. A ballot will be rejected if it does not include these two required items. MCA 13-13-201(e).

This requirement became effective on October 1, 2025.

As standard procedure, the Election Office will always try to reach out to the voter if their ballot is rejected for any reason and try to remedy the situation before Election Day, so the ballot can be accepted and counted.

If you have any questions, please contact the Election Office at 406-225-4020.

Water notice

Public notice…starting immediately water restrictions are necessary for residents. Please water your lawns; odd addresses on odd dates, even addresses on even dates.

The town is down to one well, and pump is having some problems. Currently the town is using approximately 500000 gallons daily. Restrictions are needed to keep up with demand.

This is a public awareness post. We have been contacted by Sindija Loze and she got her permit. she will be going around door to door in Whitehall selling educational books for Southwestern Advantage. We have verified this individual's information. She is a very polite and nice young woman, who does have an accent. Her vehicle is a white Toyoto with Idaho license plates. Don't be alarmed when you see her. Sindija is meeting with families that have children, from babies to seniors in High School, to provide a learning service for making reading fun and easy and to give your kids a head start. For the older children it will encourage learning and save time with homework.
