Good news!

The vote marks a rare bipartisan breakthrough on a salient issue. The bill aims to boost housing supply and prevent Wall Street from buying up single-family homes.

At last week's Poll Public, a citizen chastised Council for some having not applauded or stood up sometimes when others did during the mayor's State of the City speech. I hadn't the opportunity to respond last week and so wanted to say this today:
I represent the citizens, the mayor represents the City of Whitehall. As such, I have an obligation to my position as their governmental representative to retain and maintain an independence from others so as to provide for and help guide, without bias, the critical analysis so vital to my position's effectiveness in my service to those citizens. I will NOT, for anyone, jettison that simply to cheerlead or bow in fealty to anyone because others, using THEIR independent right, choose that route for themselves.
The majority of the voters made clear their opinion on this matter last November. Regardless, even if they hadn't, as I always have, I'll continue to stringently adhere to this important governing principle despite objections to the contrary.

At last week's council meeting there was much talk about poverty and infant mortality rate in Whitehall. The arguments were made how it is US here in Whitehall, (one of the poorest zip codes in Franklin County, according to Administration) who must do the work to tackle this issue in order to reduce it, in this case, via the Department of Neighborhoods. Again...the poor helping the poor while the Billionaires get off the hook time and again.
While one may discuss the issue effecting Whitehall as it exists currently, I am a firm believer in tackling the root cause of an issue in order to not just put salves on the wound to 'treat' it but to get at its underlying cause so it can be eradicated. That is a task we ALL must undertake if we TRULY want to do something about poverty.
To that end, I offered this last week.

Last week, there was a piece of legislation that the mayor vetoed. This was a written explanation as to why he did so and so wanted to share it with the public.
Thank you

Dear constituents, friends and supporters:
As you certainly know, this has been a difficult week. I am jarred by the events and charges against me. I have many thoughts on it all but, it is in the hands of the justice system and so must be played out. Thus, on the charges themselves, I will have no comment at this time. Know though that I will endeavor to defend myself as best I'm able. I also have thoughts on the way in which all of this has been handled but will share that at a later date.
I remind everyone that I am a human being who has always tried very hard to be a good and better person. My Grandfather and Mother, among others, guide me in that. In that, while, like you and everyone else, I may fail, the truest measure of anyone is that they keep trying to do and be better. As it has been, is and will always be with me.
Thank you.
