Ask your U.S. Representative to support House Resolution 1586 which says people with disabilities have a right to live in the community. House members can co-sponsor H. Res. 1586 to signal that Congress intends & supports the right of people with disabilities to live in the community. When members co-sponsor a resolution it means they agree with it. Many co-sponsors make it more likely to pass. Find your congress person by calling the Capitol Switch board 202-224-3121

Lisette Torres-Gerald is Disabled Puerto Rican Scientist. Her pronouns are She/her/Ella. Her academic research focuses on addressing racialized gender justice & disability in science & higher education. Lisette is a co-founder of Sines of Disability: committed to dismantling ableism in STEM & a board member of the National Coalition of Latinxs with Disabilities.(CNLD). She is also a former aquatic ecologist.

Jose Arguelles is an local artist with schizoaffective disorder. He experienced loss of people close to him--and while working through his own grief, he turned it into a way to help others. Arguelles took photos submitted to him to paint memorial portraits of other people's lost loved ones. At no cost. Loss is a part of life we all go through. You are not alone.

Oscar Ramón “Moncho” Loubriel Flores, has worked for the Puerto Rico, Vaqueros de Baymon for the last 42 years. He assists coaching staff, brings hydration & supports the team through their ups & downs. Moncho knows alot about basketball, been with the legends for years, & he's family. Moncho is the city of Bayamón & we love him very much.

Before the late 1970s, deaf children in Nicaragua were often isolated, relying on simple “home signs” to communicate within their families. After the 1979 Sandinista Revolution, the government opened schools for deaf students in Managua. Teachers tried to teach spoken Spanish through lip-reading & finger-spelling—with little success. Deaf kids created a language of their own--& now deaf adults speak Nicaraguan Sign language too! The world can learn from Disabled people too!
