Now that I have wrapped up my three-year term as a Village Trustee, I’m filled with gratitude for having had the opportunity to serve. In an ideal world, I would’ve loved to continue, but the reality is that I couldn’t give the role the time and attention it truly deserves. Still, this experience has been incredibly meaningful.

Over the past three years, I’ve learned so much- about how local government works, about the value of methodical, iterative change, and about the strength of our community. I’ve been continually inspired by how committed my fellow trustees are, how hard our village staff works behind the scenes, and how passionate, informed, and engaged our community is.

I truly believe everyone in our community should spend some time in a role like this. It gives you a whole new appreciation for how much work goes into making the magic of Whitefish Bay happen- all the little things we often take for granted.

I’m proud to have been part of efforts like helping move the Fox Bay Theatre toward a new chapter, contributing to our strategic planning, and supporting public health through lead lateral education and pedestrian and bike safety.

I want to thank you, my neighbors and friends, for your support, your encouragement, and your engagement.

This isn’t goodbye- just so long. I’ll continue to advocate for clean air, bike / pedestrian safety, and healthy living in my role as medical advisor to the North Shore Health Department, and I look forward to staying engaged in this incredible community.

Thank you for the honor of serving,

Jay

Today is and part of , and I wanted to share that one of the reasons my wife and I moved to Village of Whitefish Bay was seeing all the kids biking around town. Flash forward 9 years and it's our kids on 🚲 🚲 💙.

Biking is so important to our family. I bike to work as often as I can. Our girls bike to school all the time. We love the Oak Leaf trail. And the rack on the back of my bike is perfect for a quick run to Sendik's or Fitzy's.

One of our family's big wishes for WFB, though, is that our roads will become even safer for our girls to bike on. We have more than a little anxiety contemplating our kids crossing Marlborough or Hampton, let alone navigating the significant school traffic in the mornings and afternoons.

We hope the results of the biking/ pedestrian study and the community biking/ pedestrian survey ( https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HMTVZG8 ) lead to tangible improvements for all of our residents, not just our girls!

Mtg recap- It was a quick board meeting this week. We had a brief discussion about items that trustees and residents would like to see on the budget this coming year. Universally, improving bike and pedestrian safety was on the wish list. As a lung doc interested in promoting clean air and as a dad
