The voucher period for the next Community Cleanup Bulk Drop-off event closes today at 5 pm. If you haven't signed up yet, be sure to do so at the link below or by filling out a voucher at the Utility Billing Counter in City Hall (214 Meadow Park). The Community Cleanup will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 8 am to 1 pm, but you must have a voucher to participate. https://www.wstx.us/FormCenter/General-7/Voucher-Community-Cleanup-140

September is Hunger Action Month! Mayor Faron Young and Mayor Pro Tem Amber Munoz recently attended the Tarrant Area Food Bank's Hunger Action Month Breakfast, bringing community leaders together to raise awareness about hunger across our region.

The event featured a fireside chat with President & CEO Julie Butner and special guest Dr. Don Mills, who also serves on the Food Bank’s Board of Directors. The discussion highlighted the realities of food insecurity across the organization’s 13-county service area and the impact we can make when communities work together.

We’re grateful for the Tarrant Area Food Bank and its continued efforts to fight hunger and support our neighbors in need.

White Settlement was well represented at the Texas Municipal League Region 8 meeting on September 2 by City Councilmembers Kandace Espinosa and Aaron James.

Guest speaker Ben Singleton, a former police officer turned IT consultant, led an engaging discussion on the use of artificial intelligence in municipal government, including its potential benefits, challenges, and considerations for cities.

We’re grateful for the continued involvement of our Mayor and City Councilmembers in Region 8. White Settlement continues to have a strong presence in important regional conversations.

🚣‍♀️ Rock the Boat was a HUGE success! 🚣‍♂️

The boat designs were on point, the creativity was incredible, and the races had everyone on the edge of their seats! This is definitely one of our favorite events of the year, and we loved seeing our community come together for a fun and friendly competition!

And after years of trying, the White Settlement Police Department finally brought home first place - not once, but TWICE, the Iron Man and Free For All! 🏆🏆 Even better, The Titanic was supplied, built, AND raced entirely by the women of WSPD! 💙 What a perfect way to celebrate National Police Woman Day!

Your bulk pile can be 8 feet long, 6 feet deep, and 4 feet tall and can contain limbs, brush, yard debris in clear bags or paper lawn waste bags, furniture, and appliances without refrigerant. It was a bittersweet afternoon at City Hall as City employees gathered for the retirement ceremony of Cathey Wilson. After almost ten years of working for the City, Cathey is retiring. Anyone who has called White Settlement home over the past fifty years has probably run into Cathey at one point or another. In the 1980’s she worked as the office manager of TJ’s Grocery Store on White Settlement Rd and most recently served as the City’s receptionist. Cathey was always ready and willing to help visitors at City Hall and was a constant source of laughter and support for her co-workers.

City Manager Jeff James and Mayor Faron Young both spoke at the event, as did several of Cathey’s co-workers. All shared warm words as they bid Cathey a happy retirement. In attendance were elected officials past and present, as former mayor Jerry Burns, along with current Mayor Pro Tem Amber Munoz, and Councilmembers Place 1 Aaron James and Place 5 Kandace Espinosa came to wish Cathey a joyous retirement. Members of the Wilson family and employees from every department filled the council chamber for an opportunity to get one last hug and wish Cathey a much deserved retirement.

It was an honor for Mayor Faron Young, Mayor Pro Tem Amber Munoz, Councilmember William Wright, Councilmember Kandace Espinosa, City Manager Jeff James, and members of the White Settlement Police Department to attend the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at NAS JRB Fort Worth, alongside Commanding Officer Captain Beau Hufstetler and others from across the community.

The ceremony featured guest speaker Rear Admiral (Ret.) Doug “Woody” Beal, a flag presentation, 21-gun salute, moment of silence, First Responder Tribute, and dignified flag disposal.

City representatives also had the pleasure of meeting Master Sergeant Charles Braun, a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran who served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He will soon celebrate his incredible 104th birthday!

We are grateful for the opportunity to come together with our military and first responder community to honor the lives lost, recognize those who answered the call, and ensure the sacrifices of September 11, 2001, are never forgotten.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
