We bring people together, bridging boundaries and engaging our whole community in positive change. Vital Communities cultivates the civic, environmental, and economic vitality of the Upper Valley, a region composed of 69 towns spanning the Connecticut River. We bring people together, bridging boundaries and engaging our whole community to create positive change. We offer programming and resources

to help households, communities, schools, and workplaces build resilience. We work with dozens of partner organizations in New Hampshire and Vermont to craft shared strategies and coordinate our services. Our agenda and programs emerge from and are driven by regional needs and community interests. We encourage collaboration across public, private, and nonprofit sectors to test new approaches and share our learning. Our mission, values, and methods evolved over a history that began in the early 1990s. We make our region a better place to live, work, and play every day.

Request for Proposals: ADU Revolving Loan Fund Design & Compliance Consultant

Vital Communities has been working with partners in the White River Valley to support the creation of affordable workforce housing through a new revolving loan fund, grant program, or other financial support to help lower-income homeowners become home creators with the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units.

As we wrap up the pilot (grant only) year, we are seeking a consultant with a financial background to help our multi-organization team take the learnings from the pilot to design an ongoing loan program. See the RFP below for more information. Proposals are due by May 31.

⏰It's not too late to apply to Leadership Upper Valley’s Class of 2027!

Two Leadership Upper Valley (LUV) alums from recent classes reflected on their LUV experience recently.

"I had lived and worked here for a few years before participating in Leadership Upper Valley. The experience of building relationships and learning about the incredible resources and opportunities in the region made a huge difference for me. It wasn't until I took Leadership Upper Valley that it felt like home." – Katie Price, Grants Projects Manager, Montshire Museum of Science, LUV Class of 2024

"I highly recommend the Leadership Upper Valley program to people interested in learning about the agencies, businesses, and systems that support key services in the Upper Valley, while expanding their professional network. It’s an amazing opportunity for people new to the area as well as those who have lived here for decades (like me). As a Vermont educator, I was able to apply Leadership Upper Valley sessions toward the professional development hours required for my re-licensure with great ease." - Scott Farnsworth, Assistant Director of the Hartford Area Career & Technology Center, LUV Class of 2025
