Each year, we permanently change the lives of 3,000 men, women, and children by finding them stable housing, food, income, and other support systems to allow them to maintain an improved quality of life. Lifting Up Westchester (LUW) helps build the reservoir of support necessary for our Westchester neighbors to flourish. We are here not only to repair well-being when it starts to breakdown but also to construct a strong foundation to maintain this well-being over time. For four decades as one of the county’s largest social service nonprofits, we make sure that all of our neighbors in need have critical resources like nutritious food, stable housing, access to healthcare and education, and the strong support systems they need to regain their independence. Lifting up individuals is Lifting Up Westchester. We believe lifting individuals leads to stronger communities, a stronger economy, and a stronger society.

September 5th is the International Day of Charity! It's a day to celebrate philanthropy, volunteerism, and small acts of kindness — the exact things that make our mission possible. If you're looking for a meaningful way to give, your donation to Lifting Up Westchester has a direct impact on more than 3,000 men, women, and children in our community who are facing hunger and homelessness. Make your gift today at www.liftingupwestchester.org/donate.

Allie, a seventh grader, had been a regular at our KidzLit program until her mom suffered a medical emergency. Not wanting to leave her mother's side, she stopped coming to KidzLit, and her grades slipped along with her attendance.

Our KidzLit instructor and her middle school teacher came together with Allie and her mom, creating a plan that allowed Allie to return to the program while still being there for her family. With lots of encouragement and support, that conversation was enough to bring her back. By the end of the school year, Allie made honor roll!

Want to support students like Allie? Tickets for our second annual benefit concert, Lifting Up LIVE, are available now. Every ticket supports our tutoring and mentoring programs for local students who are impacted by hunger, homelessness, and poverty. To purchase tickets, please visit www.liftingupwestchester.org/concert.

September is Hunger Action Month - a time to recognize the impact of hunger in our community and take action to help ensure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

At Community Central, taking action happens every weekday. “We are dedicated to combating hunger across Westchester County by ensuring our doors and services are open to every member of our community,” the Community Central team explains. “On any given day, our team proudly serves 90 to 100 individuals, providing vital nourishment to those who need it most.”

For our team, a meal is more than just food - it’s hope, relief, and a reminder that no one is alone.

“We know that by providing a meal, we are helping someone in need fight to see another day,” the team shares. “As a team, we give our neighbors one less problem to hold onto as they navigate life's challenges.”

This Hunger Action Month, we’re proud to recognize the Community Central team and the work they do every day to help fight hunger across Westchester County. What will you do this month to fight hunger? 💙

"Feeding Needs. Fostering Hope." That's a mission we share, and we're proud to partner with our friends at Meals on Main Street to bring it to life!

Their Mobile Food Pantry now stops at Community Central in downtown White Plains. While Grace's Kitchen serves up nutritious hot meals every weekday, the pantry truck adds farm-fresh, free groceries to the mix, meeting our neighbors where they are.

Two organizations, one goal - making sure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

When young leaders step up to support their peers, our community grows stronger. A huge thank you to Danielle and her company Everybody Clothing Co., whose mission is to provide new t-shirts to children experiencing clothing insecurity. We are so grateful for her donation of 100 shirts which will be included in our back-to-school backpacks for the students in our programs!
