The Marine Corps League was founded by Major General Commandant, John A. Lejeune, in 1923 and chartered by an Act of Congress on August 4, 1937. Its membership of nearly 50,000 is comprised of honorably discharged, active duty and Reserve Marines with 90 days of service or more, and retired Marines. The Marine Corps League is headed by an elected National Commandant, with 14 elected national staff

officers who serve as trustees. Day to day operations are under the control of an executive director who supervises the day-to-day performance of the national headquarters staff, located at 8626 Lee Highway in Fairfax, Virginia. The prime authority of the League is derived from its charter and from its annual national convention held in August in different major U. cities throughout the nation. The National Commandant has operational control over the National Headquarters staff and the National Board of Trustees, who in turn coordinate the efforts of 45 department, or State entities, and the activities of over 780 community-based detachments located throughout the United States and overseas. The League is classified as a military service organization and was formed for the purposes of promoting the interests of the U. Marine Corps; to provide camaraderie and assistance to Marines, as well as to their widows and orphans; and to preserve the traditions of the U. Marine Corps. It is a not for profit organization within the provisions of Internal Revenue Service Code 50l (c) (4), with a special group exemption letter which allows for contributions to the Marine Corps League, its Auxiliary and subsidiary units, to be tax deductible by the donor. League members participate in:
The Veterans Administration Voluntary Service Program, an assistance program for hospitalized veterans
A national Service Program, which provides assistance to veterans in a wide area of matters relating to their military service
The League also:
Awards scholarships
Sponsors a National Youth Physical Fitness Program
Provides membership incentives
Participates in patriotic functions and provides representation to the U. Congress in legislative matters affecting the U. Marine Corps, national security and veterans benefits through its National Legislative Committee and its National Legislative Officer
Incorporated by an act of Congress in 1937, the Marine Corps League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of ALL Marines who proudly wear or who have worn the eagle, globe and anchor of the Corps.

Dear Fellow Members of the Marine Corps League,

As we close the chapter on 2025 and stand ready to charge into 2026, I extend my warmest New Year’s greetings to every Devil Dog, FMF Corpsman, and dedicated associate who proudly upholds the honor, courage, and commitment of our beloved United States Marine Corps.

This turning of the year reminds us once again of the unbreakable bonds forged in service—bonds that endure long after the uniform comes off. While many of us welcome 2026 surrounded by family and friends, let us also keep in our thoughts those active-duty Marines and Sailors who remain forward deployed, standing the watch, or serving far from home. Their steadfast vigilance safeguards our Nation and allows us to celebrate in freedom.

May 2026 bring you renewed strength, good health, and continued opportunities to serve our communities—whether through veteran support, youth programs, or simply being there for a fellow Marine in need. Let us carry the Corps’ values into the new year with the same pride and determination that have defined us since 1775.

Happy New Year 2026! May it be a year of victory in all your endeavors.

Semper Fidelis!

The Officers of the Westchester County Detachment

Dear Fellow Members of the Marine Corps League,

As the holiday season arrives with its lights, warmth, and traditions, I extend my heartfelt Christmas greetings to each of you—Devil Dogs, FMF Corpsmen, and devoted associates—who carry forward the proud legacy of the United States Marine Corps.

This time of year reminds us of the unbreakable bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood that define us. While many of us gather with family around the tree or reflect on memories of service, let us also pause to remember our active-duty Marines and Sailors who cannot be with their loved ones this holiday season—those standing watch, serving overseas, or pulling duty far from home. Their sacrifice ensures our freedoms, and we hold them and their families close in our thoughts and prayers.

As we continue our commitment to community through programs—we embody the spirit of Semper Fidelis: always faithful to our Corps, our country, and one another.

May your homes be filled with joy, peace, and the laughter of loved ones. May the New Year bring health, strength, and new opportunities to serve those who need it most.

Merry Christmas, and Semper Fi!
