A FEW FACTS ABOUT DEER
One way of How to tell if fawn is dehydrated is to look at the edges of the ears! Edges are supposed to be straight. If they are curved or curled back like these in the pic it’s dehydrated and needs help. If ears are straight and tummy is inline with ribs and not sunken in the fawn is just hanging out trying to stay safe till mom returns.
Does leave the fawns hidden in fields, gardens and places she feels is safe from predators as she goes on about her day . Momma deer (Does) do not stay with the fawns( baby deer) they only come to feed them a few times a day . The fawn will cry and she will hear and come to feed. She can hear a few miles away.

Got this buck fawn in the other day. He was following his mother across the highway when a truck hit mother and killed her just barely missing him in slaughters ky. I named him wally . He was very lucky to come out alive. He is very depressed and keeps his head down , won’t eat or run . We have been doing everything possible to help him . But sadly 2 days later he passed away. Despite everything we tried he had failure to thrive unless he was hit too and the people behind the accident didn’t see it and he had internal injuries. But i looked him over good and not a scratch on him. That’s why I’m saying failure to thrive. Watching his mother get killed was to traumatizing for him. Animals do have feelings.

2 new babies . Oliver is the second one . Found very dehydrated and to weak to stand momma was dead on highway.
The one in front is Ellie . She was found on highway too , her mother was just hit by car a sweet family from Morganfield saved her from traffic and brought her to me for rehabbing. Both of them are so precious. They sure love each other already.

This sweet male fawn was brought to me by family from Marion , Ky. He was dehydrated but appeared to be ok. After i started looking him over , he has scratches across his whole body and puncture marks on neck . His left front leg has a very deep wound. It doesn’t look that bad in the picture but it’s deep and goes across the entire under part of his leg.
Took him to Owensboro to the other rehabber for better care than i can provide right now. This little guy is in pretty bad shape .
But it’s been a week and he is doing good!
