What a great day for our first-ever Cops and Bobbers event! ☀️

Kids, officers and volunteers spent the day fishing and making memories together. The day began with fishing from the pier at Lion's Park and continued with boat rides and time out on the water.

A special thank you to the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Foundation for their support of this event and their investment in positive community connections.

Another huge thank you to Fishing For Life for providing rods, reels and help baiting hooks throughout the day. Their volunteers played a key role in making the event run smoothly and ensuring everyone had a fun and successful experience on the water.

We also had many local sponsors who helped make today a huge success! A huge thank you to Tally's Dockside, Sharkey's Cuts for Kids - White Bear Lake, MN, Cup and Cone WBL, Frontrunner Screen Printing and White bear bait for your generous support and partnership. We are grateful for your commitment to our community and for helping create a memorable day for the kids! Thank you for partnering with us!

These photos are just the beginning! Keep an eye on our page for more pictures from today's Cops and Bobbers event.

Another safety tip for TZD (Toward Zero Deaths) Tuesday!

Another safety tip for TZD (Toward Zero Deaths) Tuesday!

Last week was National Trailer Safety Week, but trailer safety is important 365 days a year – and trailer safety is a two-way street.

How to Share the Road with Trailers: Four Golden Rules🪙

▶ Give Them Extra Stopping Distance: A vehicle towing a fully loaded trailer can take twice as long to come to a complete stop as a standard car.
🪙The Rule: Never cut closely in front of a truck towing a trailer. If you cut in too closely and tap your brakes, they may not have enough space to stop in time to avoid hitting you.

▶ Avoid the "No-Zone": Trailers significantly increase a driver’s blind spots. If you are driving directly behind a trailer or lingering next to its side panels, the driver likely has no idea you are there.
🪙The Rule: If you can’t see the driver’s side mirrors, they can’t see you. Safely pass trailers quickly and smoothly rather than riding alongside them.

▶ Give Them Room to Turn: A vehicle towing a trailer must make much wider turns to prevent the trailer wheels from hitting curbs, signs, or other cars.
🪙The Rule: When a towing vehicle is turning, stay back. Never try to squeeze into the open space on the inside of a turning trailer – this is a common cause of "squeeze" collisions where cars get pinned.

▶ Watch for Sway: High winds, sudden gusts, or even the draft from a passing semi-truck can cause a trailer to sway or whip unexpectedly.
🪙The Rule: If you notice a trailer ahead of you swaying or drifting, drop back and give them plenty of room until the driver regains steady control.

Whether you’re commuting to work or heading out for a weekend getaway, a little extra patience and space around trailers goes a long way. Together, we can drive Minnesota toward zero deaths.

🚨 RENTAL SCAM WARNING 🚨

The White Bear Lake Police is bringing awareness to rental scams targeting people searching for housing online.

Scammers are posting homes for rent on social media and other websites, collecting application fees and security deposits, and then disappearing with the money. In some cases, victims have even been given access to view a home, making the scam appear legitimate.

Before sending money, watch for these common warning signs:

🔴 Payment requested through Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, gift cards, Cash App, Venmo, or Zelle.

🔴 Pressure to act immediately because "other renters are interested."

🔴 Requests to keep the transaction secret.

🔴 Refusal to meet in person.

🔴 Rent that seems too good to be true.

🔴 Requests for deposits before signing a legitimate lease.

🔴 Claims that the owner is out of town, overseas, or otherwise unavailable.

Remember: Just because you can tour a property does NOT mean the person advertising it owns or manages it.

Always verify ownership through a realtor, property management company, or county property records before sending money.

If you believe you have been targeted by a rental scam, contact the White Bear Lake Police Department.
