White Bear Lake Fire Combination Fire Department

The Fire Department, comprised of 55 volunteer members, provides fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS) for the City of White Bear Lake as well as other contracted communities. The Department provides Advanced Life Support ambulance services to the City, White Bear Township, Dellwood, Birchwood Village, Gem Lake and coordinates EMS services in the City of Hugo with their department.

Several Fire Department members are also trained in a variety of special operations such as high level rescue, dive rescue, trench rescue and confined space rescue. The Department also provides fire inspection services for commercial and multi-family buildings, building plan review, and preplanning programs for businesses within the City, White Bear Township, and Gem Lake. Records are maintained to satisfy State Statutes regarding safety training requirements and insurance service inspection for the City’s fire rating.

This evening we had the privilege of hosting the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride for a stop along their route as they honored one of our retired members, who recently passed, on this leg of their ride. We greatly appreciate their efforts to honor and remember the EMTs and Paramedics who have served their communities.

This week is National EMS Week. This year’s theme is “Improving Outcomes, Together”. It reflects everyone working together to help save lives. This is particularly true when a cardiac arrest takes place. Last year we had a survival rate that was nearly 3 times national average. This is due to citizen CPR, as well as rapid response from police officers, ambulances crews, Advanced Life Support care via our Firefighter/Paramedics and definitive care at our local hospitals. Working together we make a difference and save lives!

We will be hosting a large scale water rescue training event tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19th on White Bear Lake. This will include several agencies from the surrounding area. The Ramsey County Boat Launch will be closed to the public for most of the day while the training is taking place. Thank you for your patience while we sharpen our response skills.

Per the MN DNR, the fire danger for today is very high, meaning that fires start easily and spread at a very fast rate. Recreational fires are permitted, but should be monitored very closely. No open burning is allowed unless permitted and approved by the fire department. We have responded to multiple brush fires over the last week, a trend that we would like to see come to an end. Please be careful!

Please help us congratulate Firefighter/Paramedic Michelle Redlin on completing all her new employee required training. At last night's City Council meeting she swore to an Oath of Service and her son ceremoniously placed her badge on her uniform. We are happy she is part of our team. Congratulations Michelle!
