🚤 Safe Boating in Changing Weather 🌧️🌤️
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Reminder

Weather conditions can shift quickly—especially with spring systems moving through. Before and during your time on the water, stay alert and prepared.

⚠️ Key Safety Tips:
• Check forecasts before departure and monitor updates while underway
• Watch the sky & water – darkening clouds, shifting winds, and sudden chop are warning signs
• Wear your life jacket at all times—cold water and rough conditions increase risk
• File a float plan and let someone know your route and return time
• Reduce speed in poor visibility (rain, fog) and turn on navigation lights
• Secure loose gear and be ready for sudden maneuvers
• Head to safe harbor early—don’t wait for conditions to worsen

🌊 Remember: The best way to handle severe weather is to avoid it altogether.

Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

Our mission-

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is a dedicated volunteer organization that supports the Coast Guard’s mission of promoting maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship. Flotilla 08-39 serves the Redding area by providing boating safety education, paddlecraft safety education, conducting vessel safety checks, supporting search and rescue operations, and assisting during emergencies and public outreach events.

Why join us in our mission? The Coast Guard Auxiliary makes a meaningful difference- offering training opportunities, protecting lives on the water, and giving back to our community. Membership offers leadership development, camaraderie, and the opportunity to serve alongside the U.S. Coast Guard—without military enlistment—while gaining skills and experiences that last a lifetime.

If you live in the Northstate and are interested in joining our small but mighty group, please reach out here or like and follow our page to see where and when we will be out and about in the community!

Recent heavy rainfall across Northern California has increased water levels and caused debris such as logs, branches, and other hazards to accumulate in waterways.

Boaters are advised to use extra caution, reduce speed, keep a vigilant lookout, and avoid traveling at night when debris is harder to see. Always wear life jackets, secure loose gear, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions to ensure a safe outing on the water.
