Wheeling Professional Firefighters Local 12

Wheeling Firefighters Local 12 represents Wheeling Fire Department members and is a IAFF member. Assisted in founding the IAFF in 1918.

For 100 years, we’ve focused on firefighter safety, raising funds for cancer screenings and MDA while advocating for pensions, health, and mental well-being. The OFFICIAL page of the Wheeling Professional Firefighters Local 12.

Today, we mourn the loss of Gerald “Jerry” Jacovetty.

Jerry served the citizens and visitors of Wheeling for 25 years. He was among the first paramedics at the Wheeling Fire Department, helping lay the foundation for the advanced care our department provides today.
Those who had the privilege of serving with Jerry describe him as cool, calm, and collected.

Rest easy Jerry, we will take it from here.

A big thank you to Praying Pelican Missions and the Brandywine students from Delaware for refreshing the landscaping at the Wheeling Fallen Firefighter Memorial.

They spread new mulch, generously donated by Duplagas Top Notch Landscaping, and helped make the memorial look great for a busy summer at the Waterfront.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the memorial’s dedication, and we are grateful to everyone who helps care for this sacred place.

Today was Assistant Chief Deric Jamison’s last day with the Wheeling Fire Department.

He retires after 33 years of dedicated service, ending his career leading the Bureau of Fire Prevention. He was joined by his wife, Karen, for a luncheon celebrating his final day.

Ogden Wellness Weekend kept our members busy. Several spent the weekend working the event and helping keep everyone safe, while others competed in running, biking, and obstacle course events throughout the weekend.

Sam Karrasch, maybe one of the chillest firefighters we have, went the distance last night and earned a unanimous decision victory at Foundation Fight Series 2 in the super heavyweight division.

Sam’s record improves to 2-0, but with paramedic class coming up, he may want to limit the head shots for a while. 😂

Congratulations, Sam! We are proud of you brother!

Monthly Retirees Breakfast was extra special this time.

For one of our own, it marked the end of a career—James Carrington’s final shift. He started the morning the right way, sharing breakfast with the guys who showed him the ropes… and the ones he’s about to join in retirement.

From first call to last shift—hell of a run. Enjoy the next chapter, brother.

One of the best parts of our annual retirees dinner is when members stand up and share their years of service—and how long they’ve been enjoying retirement.

With four men over the age of 90, it was truly a night to celebrate. These men worked in a time when safety wasn’t always understood, and after decades of service, they’ve earned decades of retirement.
