This year at Memorial and Northside Park, a pollinator-rich mix of Salvia, Ageratum, Lantana, and Scaevola begin to weave together, anchored by those moody, almost-black petunias that ground everything with a little depth and mystery.
The intention isn’t perfection, it’s rhythm. Layers of bloom, soft movement, and a constant source of nectar for anything with wings and curiosity. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees aren't just visitors, they are part of the design.
If it unfolds as intended, these spaces won’t just fill in, they will pulse. A little wild, a little untamed, and fully in its own frequency by the heart of summer.
These spaces were designed by Brittany Baker - Horticulture Department of the Wheaton Park District.
