"Open Communities and HOPE Fair Housing Center, along with the other members of the Illinois Housing Equity Collective, are in the early stages of creating a state pilot program to ask the state of Illinois to provide $5 million per year to support local fair housing protections related to disparate impact cases or state-protected classes under the Illinois Human Rights Act that are no longer supported by the federal government."

Meeting opportunity for residents of Chicago's NW Side:

TOMORROW: In response to increasing challenges surrounding local housing equity, we will host a community discussion titled "Taking Action Against Discriminatory Housing" this Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM at the Jefferson Park Public Library, located at 5363 W. Lawrence Avenue. We invite our neighbors from across the Northwest Side to join us.

As our communities continue to debate the future of affordable housing, this meeting aims to move the conversation from rhetoric to informed action. The panel and discussion will focus on identifying how community processes can sometimes be weaponized to create exclusionary environments and what tools neighbors can use to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable community.
