Once again it has been brought to our attention that motorists are confused about traffic stops. If an officer sees a traffic or criminal violation inside their jurisdictions they are allowed to make a traffic stop for said violation, if say the driver happens to exit the officer jurisdictions the officer is legally allowed to continue to attempt a traffic stop until 1.) The motorists comes to a stop and the officer makes contact, or 2.) The officer can choose to disregard the traffic stop for the motorists safety, the public safety, or their own. We are well aware that several people take issue with this. As to the several posts we have seen or received calls about our Officers stopping "inside of Lee County" we would ask that the public understand that the Lee County line is less than 3 miles from our City Limits, the Monroe County line is directly adjacent to our City Limits, and Saint Francis County surroundings the City on the other two sides, with that being said from time to time our Officers end up stopped outside of our City Limits.
