School is back in session...and so is the Community Spotlight!

For families who are new to WPS, the Community Spotlight is a roundup of local opportunities and resources for Weymouth families, including youth sports and programs, family services, fundraisers, and more. We share the Spotlight districtwide via email every other Friday throughout the school year...and it is always available on our website (go to weymouthschools.org and look under "Students & Families")

To kick off the year, we’re featuring information from Weymouth Girls Basketball, Weymouth Junior Basketball League, the Elks Soccer Shoot, and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, along with textile recycling reminders from our partners at Bay State Textiles. Please keep in mind: All donations to the Bay State Textiles bins located at our schools also benefit Weymouth Public Schools!

What a great first day: from happy faces at Hamilton to welcoming our incoming 6th graders to Chapman!

We were thrilled to welcome grades 1-5 for plenty of smiles and first-day excitement. Meanwhile, Chapman and WHS welcomed incoming 6th- and 9th-graders for a day designed just for them, allowing them to begin finding their way in their new buildings.

Welcome back, Weymouth! We can't wait to see our Kindergarteners and grades 7, 8, 10, 11, & 12 tomorrow. Here’s to a great year ahead! 🐾

Hey, Weymouth…not sure if you’ve noticed, but the signs of the season are appearing all over town. 👀

Our new educators have been oriented, school offices have reopened, principals and secretaries are back at work, fall athletes have taken the fields, and the Class of 2027 is ready to make its mark. 🐾

The Weymouth School Committee is heading back to the table!

Join us tomorrow night for the first Weymouth School Committee meetings of the 2026-27 school year.

A Meeting of the Whole will be held at 4 p.m. at Adams, 89 Middle Street, where the Committee will be engaged in a workshop with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (the public is allowed to attend but not participate).

Then, at 6 p.m., the Committee will hold a regular meeting in Town Council Chambers, 75 Middle Street. The regular meeting will also be livestreamed by our friends at WETC 8.

One item on the agenda? The meeting calendar itself! The Committee will discuss its meeting dates and locations for the year, so we’re pressing pause on sharing the full schedule just yet.

We’re not saying summer is over. We’re just saying…it might be time to start thinking a little bit about back to school. 😬

For those of you ready to dive in, our Back to School Guide is now live. This guide is your one-stop shop for everything you need to get ready for the 2026-2027 school year, and there are a few important dates coming up quickly!

📅 Next Friday, August 21, at approximately 3 PM: Log into Aspen to find student homeroom assignments and schedules, along with bus transportation assignments.

🏫 Thursday, September 3:
• Kindergarten Orientation (families will get more info from their school offices)
• First day of school for Grades 1–5, 6 & 9
• Early release day for students attending school

🍎 Friday, September 4:
• First full day for Kindergarten
• Grades 7, 8 & 10-12 report for their first day
• Full school day for all students

Schools will be closed on Monday, September 7, for the Labor Day holiday.

🖍️ Tuesday, September 8:
• First day for our WECC PreK students!

We know. We know. It’s still summer. ☀️ The last thing anyone wants to hear right now is "back to school."

However, we need to make a teeny exception for our Kindergarten families, who need to know where they're going, what's happening, and when they should show up. So, Kindergarten families, this one’s for you! 👇
