Here’s some good news on your Friday, Wewoka! 💙❤️

From June 2025 through today, the City of Wewoka has secured $3,357,060.00 in awarded grant funding for specific community projects. Over 3 MILLION in FREE money! ⭐️

And while some project completion dates are still being finalized, the projects listed below are CONFIRMED and funded (and will be happening in the near future!)

💧 $2,250,000 — Water and Sewer Infrastructure improvements
🚶 $600,000 Walking Trail Project — A new 1/3-mile running and walking trail around Mutt Miller Park, including safety lighting, a new pavilion, benches, and parking lot improvements (Coming in 2027-2028!)
🛝 $250,000 — Playground equipment through the GameTime matching grant
👮 $128,910 — Funding for an additional Wewoka police officer for 3 years
💦 $90,000 — Wastewater treatment plant improvements
🪑 $14,750 AARP Community Challenge Grant — New picnic tables and accessible handrails on double step curbs on Main Street, with completion planned by December 2026
🌱 $10,000 — Community improvement, planning, and development
💻 $5,000 — New City website (www.wewokaok.gov)
🥗 $3,000 — Nutritional assistance for the Wewoka Senior Center 2025
🌻 $3,000 — Downtown pollinator beds and irrigation improvements
❤️ $2,400 — Food and utility assistance for the Wewoka Senior Center 2026

And we’re not done.

An additional $700,000 in grant requests is currently pending award, including requests for a new Type 2 ambulance, additional public safety needs, and more.

$3,357,060.00 secured since mid 2025. 11 confirmed awards. Please know that we are looking into new grants every single day and will continue to compete for the funds our town needs to improve and thrive!

We’ll continue updating the community as additional grant awards come in and project timelines are finalized. Do keep in mind: These grant funds are restricted to the specific projects for which they were awarded.

🧹 CITY-WIDE CLEANUP REMINDER!

Our upcoming City-Wide Cleanup is a great opportunity to clean up around your home and property and help keep Wewoka looking its best!

Please remember:

🌳 The City is not able to pick up piled limbs at this time.

🚛 Need to use the City dump site?
Bring your current water bill to the Water Department at City Hall, complete a short application to use the dump site, and we will provide you with a pass to present at the site.

📍 Dump Site Location: The parking lot across from the football field (100 block of E. 14th) You must present your pass in order to dump. The following items are not allowed: limbs, freon, tires, and batteries.

🏷️ Planning a garage sale?
There are no fees or permits required for garage sales during the City-Wide Cleanup Days.

📢 CITY HALL CLOSURE NOTICE

The City of Wewoka will close at 9:00 AM on next Friday, September 4th, for mandatory all-staff training.

City Hall will be open from 8:00–9:00 AM that morning for anyone needing to make a payment or conduct business before the closure.

We will also be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day and will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we take this time for staff training.

💧 Water Conservation Request – Today & Tomorrow (8/25 and 8/25)

We are asking residents to please conserve water today and tomorrow while our Water Department works to clean out and survey lines near the lake.

At this time, we do not anticipate any interruption to water service in town. Our water crew has filled the water tower in preparation for the work and expects it to carry us through the next two days.

We simply ask everyone to help by limiting unnecessary water use while this work is being completed.

💧 **WATER UPDATE**

**Water will NOT be shut off.**

The water leak has been repaired. The leak did drain our water tower, so we ask everyone to please be patient as the tower begins to refill. As the tower refills, water pressure will gradually return to normal.

A big thank you to our Street and Water crews for their quick response and hard work in getting the issue resolved.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding!

Please be advised that work will be conducted on the dam tomorrow (Friday, May 22nd). As a result, water service will be temporarily interrupted from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

During this period, water pressure may be reduced. We anticipate that the water tower will sufficiently meet daily needs; however, we encourage residents to remain mindful of water usage and practice conservation where possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.

📢 Municipal Court Time Change

Please be advised that City of Wewoka Municipal Court will continue to be held on the fourth Monday of each month, but the time is changing.

Beginning in June 2026, Municipal Court will begin at 1:30 p.m. instead of 2:00 p.m.
