On Sunday the members of the WFD were keeping busy.
A crew of members participated in another training evolution on stabilization, lifting and extrication scenarios. This is the third session in the past 2 weeks.
Another crew participated in a Touch-A-Truck and Food Drive event sponsored by D’Esopo Funeral Chapel. The Food Drive donations benefit the Wethersfield Food Bank.
All this on top of 3 calls of service that started at approximatley 0300 hours this morning, and all occurred before noon.
Let’s hope for a nice, quite, football Sunday afternoon. 🏈🏈
UPDATE: 1400 hours (now 4 calls for service).

SAFETY MESSAGE

With the heating season starting, we would like to remind everyone not to use power strips to power portable space heaters. If you use portable electric space heaters, always plug the device directly into an outlet. Power strips were not designed to provide power to devices that require increased amperage for power. Power strips can become overloaded and start a fire.

Learning and further education is endless in the Fire Service, and today is a prime example of that.
I am proud to announce the following members who have spent numerous hours furthering their education and have attained Certifications in the following areas:

Deputy Chief Dan Spina - Fire Officer III
Deputy Chief Gary Sharkevich - Fire Service Instructor I
Lieutenant Alex Sierra - Fire Service Instructor I

Those officers did all of this while conducting their everyday duties and responsibilities in their officers roles, and continued responding to calls for service.

Please thank them for their commitment to the WFD and the community.
Keep up the great work

At approximately 2227 hours on Sunday, the Wethersfield Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Maple Street. The first arriving Chief Officer arrived and found heavy fire showing from the attic of a single family dwelling.
The occupants were out prior to our arrival.
Our members initiated an aggressive interior in the attic and the main body of fire was knocked down. Ventilation and overhaul was performed and the scene was turned over to the Fire Marshals office for cause and origin investigation.
Rocky Hill Fire assisted with R.I.T. coverage at the scene.
