The Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps provides emergency medical services to the 11,000 residents of Westwood as well as surrounding communities as part of the Pascack Valley EMS Mutual Aid group. In 2012 we responded to 853 emergency calls in Westwood, Washington Township, Hillsdale and other Pascack Valley communities.

This past weekend, WVAC Youth Squad members Abby Heinze and Danielle Chan participated in the New Jersey State First Aid Council Youth Squad Competition in Keyport, New Jersey. Abby and Danielle competed as part of a joint team alongside members of Haworth EMS. Throughout the event, they took part in a variety of drills and challenges that tested the skills and knowledge they have developed through weeks of training, practice, and coursework.

The competition provided an excellent opportunity for our members to apply what they have learned, work as part of a team, and gain valuable experience in EMS that will positively benefit the town! WVAC would like to extend our thanks to Haworth EMS for welcoming our members onto their team and providing them with this outstanding opportunity. We are proud of Abby and Danielle for their hard work, dedication, and representation of WVAC at this event.

Lights, sirens, and lots of smiles! 🚑🚓🚒

Throughout the past week we joined Westwood police and fire departments to celebrate the 4th grade LEAD program at Brookside and Berkeley.

Students got an up-close look at emergency vehicles, learned about first responders, and asked some fantastic questions.

Thank you to all the students and staff for a fun day. special thanks to Detective Danielle Neuberger and Officer Ryan Casey for putting together this amazing celebration. We loved being a part of it!

Maybe we even inspired some future first responders along the way! 🚑🚓🚒

Earlier today a crew had the opportunity to practice their skills alongside Township's EMS, and inform Westwood HS seniors of the effects of drunk driving prior to their prom. Not only did we get to participate in Westwood Regional’s events, but one member got to experience Pascack Valley’s DUI educational events alongside the River Vale crew.

Today has been a busy day! 🚑

Top left corner 📸: Along with other first responders in the Pascack Valley, a few of our members attended First Responder’s Day ! The event was to highlight First Responder opportunities for interested high school students while still attending school.

Remaining three 📸: our Youth Squad met today reviewing electronic charting while chowing down on some Chipotle. This gives our youth squad members the opportunity to go over any questions on how to properly chart as EMTs and to ensure that charting standards are met!
