From Westwood Police
QR scam. Read below.

Chief Michael R. Pontillo and the members of The Westwood Police Department would like to advise residents of a new variation of the “Amazon QR Code” scam that has been reported nationwide.

This scam typically involves unsolicited packages delivered to your home that contain a malicious QR code. Scanning the code can result in identity theft, stolen financial information, or malware being installed on your phone.

How the Scam Works:

▪️Unexpected Delivery
You receive a package, often in what appears to be legitimate Amazon packaging for an item you did not order. The package may have your correct name and address but no clear return address or sender information.

▪️ The Bait
Inside the package, or on a sticker attached to it, there is a note with a QR code urging you to scan it to:
• “Find out who sent the gift”
• “Learn more about your package”
• “Claim a prize”
• Leave a five-star review in exchange for a reward

▪️ Scanning the QR code may:
• Redirect you to a fraudulent website that looks like an official Amazon or bank login page and prompts you to enter personal or financial information.
• Automatically download malicious software onto your device, potentially giving scammers access to your personal data, passwords, and accounts.

How to Protect Yourself:
• Do not scan QR codes from unsolicited packages.
• Do not enter personal or financial information into websites accessed through unknown links.
• Report suspicious deliveries directly to Amazon through your official account.
• Monitor your financial accounts for unusual activity.

If you believe you may have been targeted or compromised, please contact the Westwood Police Department immediately.

❄️ Huge thanks to our DPW heroes!!!

While 15 inches of snow is a beautiful sight, it’s a major challenge for public health and safety.

The Health Department wants to give a huge "Thank You" to our Westwood Public Works crew! 🚜💪

Because of their tireless plowing and salting, healthcare workers and all essential workers/volunteers got to their shifts and our most vulnerable residents were able to be reached by emergency services.

Road safety IS public health. Thank you, DPW, for working through the night to keep Westwood moving!

Under New Jersey Title 4 animal cruelty laws, companion animals cannot be left outside unattended without proper shelter for more than 30 minutes when the temperatures 32degrees or below( or above 90 degrees).
If you know of any at risk animals out in the cold contact your local police department. They are tasked with animal cruelty and neglect investigations and are required to have a Humane Law Enforcement Officer.
Just to clarify Companion Animals mean animals kept as pets, not working animal.
And yes we know some dogs love to be out in the snow, we did not write the law.
Just because you have a car built for speed doesn’t mean you can ignore the speed limit!
