DAMAGING WIND THREAT INCREASING TONIGHT

🚨Download the MCWX weather app to track!

The latest Storm Prediction Center outlook continues to highlight a corridor from eastern Kansas into southwest Missouri for a potentially significant damaging wind event tonight. Some storms could organize into a fast-moving line capable of producing widespread wind damage, with a few locations seeing wind gusts well above severe limits. The highest-end threat appears to be north of northeast Oklahoma, but anyone across eastern Oklahoma should stay weather aware.

Current guidance suggests storms may begin organizing this evening across Kansas before pushing southeast. If a mature complex develops, the greatest concern would be damaging straight-line winds after 9 PM, especially across areas near the Kansas border. A few storms could also produce large hail, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

For Tulsa and much of eastern Oklahoma, confidence remains higher in a damaging wind threat than a tornado threat. The exact intensity and southward extent of the storm complex will depend on how storms evolve this evening, so check back for updates as we monitor radar trends.

SATURDAY NIGHT: DAMAGING WIND THREAT INCREASING

Confidence is growing that a line of strong to severe thunderstorms will develop Saturday evening and race east across parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas overnight.

The primary concern appears to be damaging straight-line winds, with some storms capable of producing wind gusts of 70 to 90 mph. The Storm Prediction Center has expanded an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) into northeast Oklahoma, including the Tulsa metro.

Current timing:

* Western Oklahoma/Kansas: Late Saturday afternoon and evening
* Tulsa area: Roughly 9 PM to 2 AM
* Northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri: Overnight hours

Large hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, but the greatest threat at this time appears to be widespread damaging winds associated with a fast-moving squall line.
