Earlier this week, Westporter Carl Wistreich, joined Rabbi Friedman of Temple Israel to discuss his newest novel, My Lethal Obsession. It’s a novel that weaves family drama and suspense through the weight of historic persecution, resilience, and what it means to carry a story forward.

Saugatuck Scribes exists for exactly this: local authors, real conversations, and the room to tell them.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Yale historian Beverly Gage came to The Westport Library this week and took our community on a road trip through 250 years of American history, from sea to shining sea — and all the hidden corners and unique landmarks you never knew about.

Gage’s book “This Land Is Your Land,” on Obama’s summer reading list, gave her plenty to talk about with WSHU's Molly Ingram. It was the perfect way to commemorate the country’s 250th birthday this year, and exactly the kind of conversation we’re thrilled to inspire in our shared space.

The Library was packed Tuesday night, and it turned out best-selling author Chris Bohjalian had more skin in the game than most readers knew — he was a golf caddy himself, and The Amateur draws directly from that world. Funny, candid, and in easy conversation with Connecticut Public’s Catherine Shen, he took the room from memory to fiction and back again.

Books were signed, a few lucky people went home with Amateur baseball hats, and nobody seemed in a hurry to leave. Nights like this are what the library is for — watch the full conversation ➡️ https://youtu.be/NwBZxc8sP-o

We made stained glass art from scratch yesterday! Students learned metal soldering, glass cutting and walked away with bespoke art. A special thanks to DAB Stained Glass for sharing their craft with us this summer.

This stained glass workshop is just one of the many hands-on offerings in our 2026 Camp Explore summer lineup. Thanks to the continuing generosity of Roz and Bud Siegel, we've been able to offer dynamic STEAM programming for the last seven years.
