Vietnam Veterans of America, Bristol County, Chapter #207, in conjunction with the Fall River Department of Veterans Services, will hold the annual MIA/POW Recognition Day, Friday, September 18th at 12:00 P.M., in Veterans’ Memorial Bicentennial Park, Fall River, at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall

All veterans, their families and friends are invited to attend this ceremony in recognizing those service members who are still missing or are POWs.

The Veterans Appreciation Cookout scheduled for this Sunday, September 13, has been postponed to Sunday, September 20, due to the forecast for heavy rain and potential thunderstorms.

If you already registered and plan to attend on Sept. 20, you do not need to do anything.

If the date changes affects your attendance, please contact Carol in the Veterans Office at 508-636-1028 to cancel or register.

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

As a reminder, the Westport Fire Department is hosting a solemn ceremony at the fire station on Hix Bridge Road at 8:30 AM. All community members are invited to attend.

Veterans: the weekly veterans coffee social usually held from 9 - 11 AM at the Westport VFW will be from 10 AM - noon.

25th Anniversary September 11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Westport Fire Department invites community members to join them for a solemn ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The ceremony will honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost that day, as well as the courageous first responders and service members who answered the call to serve and protect in the aftermath.

The ceremony will include a prayer by Chaplain Kate Galop, remarks from State Senator Michael Rodrigues, State Representative Steven Ouellette, members of the Westport Select Board, and Veterans Service Officer, Carol Freitas, along with moments of silence at 8:46 AM and 9:03 AM, marking the times the North and South Towers were struck.

Community members are warmly invited to attend as we remember, honor, and reflect on the lives and sacrifices forever connected to September 11.

VA Warns of National Postcard Scam

The VA is warning that scammers had sent postcards to veterans claiming they are entitled to VA benefits or extra payments over the last year, but that these postcards were fraudulent and not affiliated with the VA.

The VA advises veterans not to hand over any personal information to those they don't completely trust, notably as millions of veterans will soon receive something through the mail from the VA. Between August 13 to September 11, the VA will mail official "Choose VA" postcards to around 3.8 million veterans who are not enrolled in VA health care.

This Friday, 7 Aug 2026, there will NOT be coffee & pastries served at the VFW.

There is a Purple Heart event @ 9 AM at Bicentennial Veterans Park in Fall River.

The bus will leave the VFW in Westport at 8:15am and should return by 11:00AM.
