Westport Tests Emergency Readiness
Westport department heads and the Board of Selectmen ran the Governor’s 2026 Emergency Planning and Preparedness Initiative (EPPI) at the Westport Emergency Operations Center, with Fire Chief Nick Marsan directing the exercise.
•What is EPPI? A statewide exercise coordinated annually by Connecticut DEMHS since 2012, designed to prepare state and local partners for natural and man-made disasters. Every town in the state runs the same drill on the same day — testing whether local plans and coordination hold up under pressure.
•This year’s scenario: A severe blizzard bearing down on Westport
•Focus: Coordinated preparation, response, and recovery across town departments
•Why it matters: Officials tackle a new disaster scenario each year, so the town stays sharp across every type of emergency — not just the ones it’s already drilled
Westport’s town leadership trains for the storm before it arrives.
