Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also take a moment to reflect on those who gave everything for our country. 🇺🇸

From all of us at WVFD, we thank our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible dedication and selflessness of our volunteer firefighters.

These individuals balance work, family, and personal commitments, yet still answer the call-day or night-to keep our community safe. They run toward danger when others are told to stay back, all without expecting recognition or reward.

Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment do not go unnoticed. We are grateful for the time, heart, and strength they give to protect and serve.

If you see a volunteer firefighter this week, take a moment to say thank you. Our community is stronger because of them. ❤️

Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 24-28.

The annual statewide tornado drill is happening tomorrow, March 25th at 10:00 AM.

You’ll hear outdoor warning sirens across the state as part of the drill. Don’t worry- this is only a test. No action is required, but it’s a great chance to practice your severe weather plan.

Take a minute to think about:
-Where you would go if a tornado warning was issued
-How you’d get there quickly
-Making sure your family or coworkers know the plan too

A little preparation now can make a big difference when severe weather hits.

Stay weather aware and stay prepared, Iowa! 🌪️

We are so incredibly grateful for the amazing support shown at our Annual Chicken Supper.

Tonight, we were proud to serve 820 dinners-an incredible turnout that truly shows the strength of our community!

Thank you to all of the volunteers who spent countless hours planning, cooking, serving, and cleaning up. Events like this truly take a village, and we’re lucky to have such dedicated people who give their time for our department and community.

To everyone who came out to dine with us, whether you sat down and enjoyed a meal or grabbed a to-go plate-thank you for supporting us. Seeing the community come together means more than we can say.

We also want to give a huge thank you to everyone who made additional donations. Your generosity helps keep our department running, maintain equipment, and ensures we’re ready when our community needs us. Simply put, we couldn’t do what we do without the support of all of you.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting your local fire department. 🚒❤️ We are proud to serve such an incredible community.

🚨 Special Attention Shelby County 🚨

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for our area due to critical fire weather conditions.

🔥 What to expect:
• Warm, near-record temperatures
• Very dry air (humidity as low as 15%)
• Dry grasslands and crop fields
• Southwest winds 10–20 mph (gusts up to 25 mph)

⚠️ Why this matters:
Even though winds aren’t extreme, these conditions make it very easy for fires to start and spread quickly.

🚫 Please avoid all outdoor burning.
Any spark could turn into a fast-moving fire.

👨‍🚒 Help us keep Shelby County safe—be cautious with anything that could cause a spark, including equipment, grills, and ci******es.

Stay safe and spread the word!

🚨🔥 BURN BAN UPDATE 🔥🚨

Well folks… it only took a boat load of snow to get us there ❄️😅

The burn ban has officially been lifted!

Mother Nature said, “Oh, you need moisture? Say less.” and absolutely overachieved.

You’re now clear to resume burning — just remember:
-Still burn responsibly
-Keep it attended
-And maybe thank the giant snowstorm that made this possible

Who knew the solution was just turning the whole county into a snow globe? ☃️🔥

Stay safe out there!
