Parents play a crucial role in their children's education, especially in early childhood. Research shows that tamily involvement in reading can help recover what might be lost with fewer instructional hours.

WE NEED GUEST READERS PARENTS, CAREGIVERS, OR OLDER SIBLINGS TO GIVE UP 30 MINS OF THEIR TIME READING TO SMALL GROUPS. Please reach out to Chris Ware at [email protected] if interested in volunteering.

The term parent is used here for any adult taking primary responsibility for raising a child - including foster parents, family members, and legal guardian.

Hi my name is Ashley Morrell and I am the community coordinator for Energy Express. Energy Express is an award-winning, six-week summer reading and nutrition program operated by West Virginia University Extension in partnership with AmeriCorps. It is specifically designed to help children in rural and low-income communities maintain or improve their reading skills during the summer months and avoid the "summer slide".

We are in need of guest readers to give up 30 mins of their time to read to a small group or groups of students. We also need sponsors for our open house. I will be reaching out to those who read last year in the next day or two. Please contact Chris Ware or myself for further details. We look forward to a great summer!

There is one more day for Lewis County 4-H members to receive their $40 discount from the 4-H Leaders Association for their camp registration. If you are planning to attend 4-H camp and haven't registered you only have a few days left. To receive the $40 discount you must be registered by 11:59 p.m. on June 1.

Energy Express acceptance letters were mailed out this week and should be arriving in your mailboxes within the coming days. Please be aware our site is full and we now have a waiting list, if your plans have changed please contact the Extension Office. Please do NOT call the bus garage asking about the bus route. Our Energy Express team starts next week and we are looking forward to an amazing summer! 📖

We are preparing for Lewis County 4-H Camp! Lewis County 4-Hers and friends will be making their way to WVU Jackson's Mill in just 32 days and we are so excited! Our campers and staff will be participating in a week-long service project and our project this year is the Lewis County Backpack Buddy program. Help our campers pack 1000 bags for Lewis County students, you can support our effort by helping us clear our amazon list which can be found below. There’s still time to register for state camps! We have scholarships available for first time week long state campers and for middle school students. If you are interested in attending and need help getting there, reach out to Megan. We want to see a bunch of Lewis County 4-Hers at OMC, Alpha II, and Alpha I this summer!

There’s also a $200 discount for OMC available for the first 150 campers!
