Weston Volunteer EMS

Weston Volunteer EMS provides quality patient care. We also promote health safety through our CPR and Weston Injury Prevention programs.

Weston Volunteer EMS is the State-designated Emergency Medical Services organization for the Town of Weston, CT. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the 50+ person department responds to over 500 calls each year.

🌟 Member Spotlight: Henry McElligott 🌟
This month, we’re proud to highlight our member spotlight, Henry McElligott. Henry joined Weston EMS as a junior in high school four years ago and has made an outstanding contribution to our department ever since, volunteering over 1,100 hours and responding to more than 350 calls. Henry was our 2022 Student EMT of the Year and recently became a driver in the department. He is also an active firefighter with
Henry grew up in Weston and now attends the University of Pittsburgh, where he is studying emergency medicine and serves as the Vice President of Pitt Student EMS. He is also a firefighter/EMT in Monroeville, PA.
Outside of EMS, Henry volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and loves to ski, hike, and spend time outdoors.
Henry says that his favorite part of being an EMT is the fulfillment that comes from providing both medical and emotional support to others in his community during their times of need. He also appreciates that Weston EMS is filled with people who share the same mission.
We are so lucky to have such a dedicated and compassionate individual in our community, and we thank you, Henry, for all that you do.

May Monthly Call Summary 2026

This month, Weston Volunteer EMS responded to a total of 62 calls. 40 of them during the daytime, and 22 during the night, with 5 after 11pm. This brings our total calls to 246 for the year. We are proud to offer 24/7 free volunteer response to our community.

Memorial Day 2026 🇺🇸

Today we gathered to honor and remember those who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Although the rain made our initial parade plans infeasible, we were so glad to have been able to have this year’s Memorial Day Ceremony indoors to honor our veterans. We would especially like to recognize our own members who are also veterans pictured in the second slide: Jon Weingarten, John Loeser, Emerson Phillips, Gary Clayton, and Paul Deysenroth.

A special thank you to Fire Department, and specifically Firefighter Peter Stack for their continued leadership and sponsorship of the Memorial Day Parade. Their dedication, planning, and tireless efforts ensure that our community can come together each year to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We are excited to announce our participation in the 2026 Memorial Day Parade! 🚨🚑

We would like to extend a huge thank you the who coordinates and sponsor the parade each year. The parade will be kicking off at 10:45am on Monday, May 25th.

We have spent the past few days preparing our apparatus and personnel for this day to honor the sacrifice and loss of those who served and died in the military. We are looking forward to seeing you there.

During EMS Week, we want to highlight the importance of education in EMS, both within our department and throughout our community.
Weston EMS holds monthly training drills on a variety of topics throughout the year and is lucky to have many additional training opportunities, including Scenario Saturdays led by our own EMT T. Janson, MCI drills, and extrication trainings alongside and . Ongoing training helps our members stay prepared, continue building their skills, and provide the best care possible when our community needs us most.
We’re also incredibly grateful for the many schools, organizations, and community groups in town that are always excited to learn and work with us. Creating a safer community starts at every age, even in elementary school. This year, we’ve visited several Kindergarten and Second Grade classes, participated in the Intermediate School Service Day, and hosted multiple CPR classes for community members.
Our community is what makes our work possible, and during EMS Week we want to thank all of you for the support, trust, and kindness you show us every day.

This past week, Weston EMS had the opportunity to attend Community Helper Day at Hurlbutt Elementary School! Over 160 students participated in sessions to learn about different careers that serve and support the community.

Students learned about the role and responsibilities of EMTs, how Weston EMS serves the town, and the training, skills, and certifications required to work in emergency medical services. They also learned when and how to call 911 during an emergency and what to expect when first responders arrive.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to connect with the next generation and share what EMS is all about. Thank you to Hurlbutt Elementary School for having us!

This week members of Weston EMS and were honored to attend and teach at Weston Middle School’s after school WOW program on Sitter Safety. During this 5 week session, kids learn about best practices for babysitting young children, including how and when to call 911. They learn basic first aid and receive a Certification Certificate from the American Heart Association.

Getting kids certified and comfortable with emergency services is invaluable for our community, giving our students the confidence to stay calm under pressure and the power to act decisively in a crisis. We are so proud of their willingness to learn and show up for our community.
