West Oak High School. 2021JROTC Awards Ceremony was recently conducted by Gene Neville, Commander American Legion Post 107. Winners were as follows:

JROTC Military Leadership Award- Austin Merritt. Austin will be Battalion Commander next year.
JROTC Marksmanship Award - Joshua Priole.
JROTC Scholarship Excellence Award - Austin Hammonds.

Conner Green, a Senior at West Oak High School, won the Post 107 Oratorical Contest on December 10, 2020. Conner is a four year member of the West Oak JROTC and has enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout. Conner will represent Post 107 in the Quadrant 1 Oratorical Competition in February. On Sept 26, West Oak High School boys and girls who participated in Boy' and Girls' State in June 2019 were honored by Post 107. The young people spent a week learning about how our government is run. The programs are sponsored by American Legion Post 107 and the LEGION Auxiliary. Lt. Matthew Patterson, second in command in the Westminster Police Dept., has been selected as the Westminster American Legion Post 107 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. His 15 years of experience in all aspects of law enforcement including crime scene investigations and graduating front the SC Police Academy enables him to perform in all types of Police related activities. He is pictured with Commander Gene Neville and his wife Brooke and his daughter Claire.

Diane Mason, a 20 year volunteer in the Oakway Rescue Squad, has been selected as the Westminster American Legion Post 107 First Responder of the Year. Diane ran a phenomonal 575 medical first responder calls in 2018. Her quality of calls has also been outstanding, and she has saved many lives. She has consistently run over 300 calls every year even while working full time. She is pictured with Commander Gene Neville and Henry Gordon.

Chief Rory Jones was awarded the 2018 American Legion Post 107 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award. Chief Micheal Smith was awarded the 2018 American Legion Post 107 Fireman of the Year award. Pictured left to right are Chief Rory Jones, Westminster Chief of Police, Henry Gordon, Post 107 Commander, and Chief Micheal Smith, Westminster Fire Chief. Chief Rory Jones has had extensive experience in the law enforcement field having served in the Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster Police Departments. He is also very active in the community. Chief Micheal Smith has had over 20 years as a volunteer in several fire departments and a number of years as a full time fireman in Westminster, ,SC, over 20 years as a rescue squad volunteer and chief, and 10 years as a HAZMAT volunteer. Both men are very well deserving of these awards and were recommended for the State American Legion Awards.

Bob Scherer, past State Legion Commander, is pictured with Aaron Kalloch, Post Adjutant, left, and Henry Gordon, Post Commander, right. Mr. Scherer gave an excellent presentation on the status of the SC American Legion on 10/26/17. This was his second visit to Post 107.
