๐จSCAM ALERT๐จ
The Westminster Police Department has recently been made aware of scam calls in which individuals falsely identify themselves as law enforcement officers and attempt to intimidate citizens into making immediate payments to avoid arrest.
These scammers may claim you missed jury duty, have an active warrant, failed to appear in court, or owe money for fines or other legal matters. They often use spoofed phone numbers to make the call appear legitimate and may even provide fake names, badge numbers, or agency information to sound convincing.
โ ๏ธPLEASE REMEMBER:
โข The Westminster Police Department will NEVER demand payment over the phone.
โข Law enforcement will NEVER instruct you to pay using gift cards, cryptocurrency, Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or any other electronic payment platform to avoid arrest.
โข If you have an active warrant, officers will not offer to โresolveโ the matter by accepting payment over the phone.
If you receive a suspicious call:
โ Hang up immediately.
โ Do NOT provide personal or financial information.
โ Do NOT call the suspicious number back.
โ If you are unsure whether a caller is legitimate, contact the Westminster Police Department directly.
โ If needed, request a uniformed officer in a marked police vehicle and arrange to meet at the police department or another public location.
Scammers rely on fear, urgency, and confusion to pressure victims into acting quickly. Please help protect your family, friends, and neighbors by sharing this information.
If you have received a similar scam call or believe you may have been targeted, please contact the Westminster Police Department at (410) 848-4646.
