Cleveland Rural Fire Department Responds to Early-Morning Residential Structure Fire

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 1:50 a.m., the Cleveland Rural Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 500 block of Kennesaw Drive, off Hopewell Church Road.

Upon arrival of the first-arriving units, crews located a mobile home with heavy fire involvement. Firefighters immediately began operations to contain the fire, bringing the main body of the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes.

Crews remained on scene to conduct overhaul and mop-up operations and to ensure there were no remaining fire extensions.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

✨ Cooling center opening!!

Temporary Cooling Center to Open in Oconee County, SC

Due to prolonged, extreme heat and high temperatures, a temporary cooling center will open its doors in Oconee County.

The cooling shelter, located at the Tim Howard Gym at 810 W. South 4th Street, in Seneca, will open its doors Friday, August 14th at 12:00 p.m. Managed by the Oconee County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), South Carolina Department of Social Services and American Red Cross, the cooling center will be available to patrons Friday the 14th, through Monday the 17th, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Heat-related illnesses happen when the body is not able to properly cool itself. When spending time outdoors, people should be sure to properly hydrate, seek shade, and wear appropriate clothing. Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion, including dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea and weakness should move to a cooler area, sip water and seek medical help if symptoms do not improve.

At the intersection of N Horseshoe Bridge Road and Duke Cemetery road, a tree has fallen down N Horseshoe Bridge bringing down the powerline. Duke Cemetery Road is blocked by the lines. We have placed cones out to mark the area and Blue Ridge Electric is aware and does have crews responding. They have been slammed with calls this evening. Use caution in the area and allow our linemen room to work.

Please bare with us and the electric company as we work to clear roads from downed trees and they work to restore power. We have multiple trees and power lines down in multiple locations and we are working diligently to clear them.
