Did your child receive benefits through the Sun Bucks Program this summer? Sun Bucks were made available to children who receive free and reduced lunches during the school year. Eligible families received a total of $120 for the months of June, July, and August to ensure children had increased access to food throughout the summer.

June is National Reunification Month! Our colleagues in the foster care unit work diligently to team with families of origin during family separation beginning the moment a child enters foster care. One moment in time does not define or reflect a family and it is important that the professional team works to maintain connections and make all reasonable efforts to reunify a family.

In June, we recognize Family Investment Administration (FIA) Month! Staff in FIA process applications for financial assistance, medical insurance, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In Federal Fiscal Year 2023 (FFY23), staff saw a 25% increase in applications for assistance! They go above and beyond to share resources with members of our community and regularly attend trainings to stay informed about local services.

In recognition of Elder Abuse Day on June 15, 2024, the Adult Services unit hosted an awareness event at the Carroll County Public Library in Westminster, showing a film and offering information about the services available to vulnerable adults in our community.

The role of Adult Services is to investigate reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation among the elderly in our community, while also supporting them to locate services for food, housing, financial assistance, and so much more. All adults in our community deserve dignity, care, and respect.

Have you seen our staff out and about in our community? As we prepare for summer, we've participated in the SAFE Kids Day at the Flower & Jazz Festival, the Westminster Farmer’s Market, and Hampstead Day! We hope to raise awareness for the needs of families, children, and vulnerable adults in our community and share information about the services and resources that can be found with our Family Investment Administration, Child Support Administration, and Social Services Administration.

Today is National Foster Care Day! In Carroll County, we recognize today and the month of May by celebrating the strength and resilience of the families with whom we work, the children placed in care, and the resource families who provide comfort and stability in the midst of family separation. The dedicated staff in our services units, from Child Protective Services, In-Home Family Services, and Foster Care work every day to support families and ensure that every child in foster care achieves safety, permanency, and a healthy well-being.

• Recipient of SNAP and/or Temporary Cash Assistance
• Non-Custodial Parent
• Foster Youth
• Veteran on Assistance

Yesterday, Carroll County DSS hosted the 2nd Annual Child Abuse Prevention Walk! We want to thank the many community partners and local agencies that joined us in bringing awareness to the important work we do everyday to Prevent Child Abuse.

Child abuse and neglect are preventable and it is through forging stronger connections with one another that we best serve the children and families of Carroll County.

We strive to do our part in making our entire community stronger as we work together to Support Families and Protect Children.
